Christmas cards

#1 Post by sponge »

I was having a little snoop round eBay recently and I noticed there were a few Christmas cards knocking about, but the ones I saw said 'signed by Neil and Chris'. I've got the last dozen or so through the Fan Club but I always assumed the signatures were pre-printed. Do they actually sign them?

No they are just printed copies of signatures!

I beg to differ, a couple of the very early cards I received were actually signed. In one of mine they had closed the card before the ink had dried from the black marker, and left a smudged mark on the opposite side.

christmas cards

I am collecting the christmas cards and have two which I am unable to date.
They are both square cards. One has Chris and Neil draped in fairy lights holding a little dog (Chris' family dog possibly) and the other one resembles the artwork on Behaviour and has a white background with four squares in the centre with two colour pictures and two black and white of Neil and Chris covered in snow. I guess this one is around 1990 and the other one earlier as Neil has longer hair. Has anyone else got these and if so any ideas what year?

I have an Introspective Xmas card that was properly signed too.

You are correct - 1989, and 1990 for the Behaviour one.

Isn't the dog Booblies The Baddest from Introspective cover?

Also the Introspective Christmas card, was it given away with the news letter as the first fanclub card was the one with the fairy lights on Neil & Chris

Dog - Many thanks for the confirmation of the dates - I do like to have things catalogued properly! Surprisingly, the 1989 one with the fairy lights does not have any signatures at all.

Yes, I think it was sent out to the mailing list for the EMI newsletter thingy.

There was a 1987 "tour pass" Christmas card too, but I didn't get that one, although I was on the mailing list at the time.

I wonder how many people were members of the fan club back then?

It was free as well, so probably quite a lot! I think I still have all those old newsletters somewhere.

The old fan club will always have a place in my heart because when I didn't receive the mailout once, I wrote to Krysia (who ran the newsletter) and she sent me two signed It's A Sin posters and an apologetic letter. Brilliant! :D
