patrick wrote:What you said is that Absolutely fabulous isn't "technically" a PSB single because it doesn't say Pet Shop Boys - Absolutely Fabulous on it. This obviously means we are discussing artwork, because where else would we find type? You then make excuses for other releases that don't meet this criteria of yours. This is hypocrisy.
You're - AGAIN - putting words in my mouth that I didn't say. I did NOT state that Absolutely fabulous is technically not a PSB single because it doesn't say so on the sleeve! Please STOP twisting my words in a direction that suits you! I said Absolutely fabulous is technically not a PSB single, because it's released under a different artist name. And, no matter if you like it or not, this different artist name is a FACT.
Polyhex is based on official charts data..... - So what? This doesn't change the fact that Absolutely fabulous is a PSB single. All it shows is that Polyhex has the opinion that it is not despite the view of PSB themselves. That you hold the same opinion as Polyhex does not change the fact that it is still an opinion.
Thing is... the figures presented on Polyhex, aren't an opinion. They are plain facts. Official charts data. Just like I showed with the Massive (Attack) example, which you choose to ignore, because you haven't got arguments to tackle it.
There are errors on the PSB site. Absolutely fabulous is not one of them. Ironically Absolutely fabulous is an error in the Polyhex listings!
Prove it! Come up with official charts data, proving me wrong! Contact the official UK charts organisation and let me know the outcome.
Please look up "nominally" in the dictionary, with careful thought given to the placement of Absolutely fabulous on the official site and in contemporary releases. It's obviously considered "technically" a PSB single by the PSB themselves. It's been released on a number of other PSB releases and not credited to "Absolutely Fabulous" or whoever (way to miss the joke though). They win. You lose.
Why should we discuss the word nominally? The statement we are discussing is "Absolutely fabulous is technically not a PSB-single". One of the explanations my dictionary gives for the word 'technically' is formal(ly). And that's exactly the case here: it's formally (also read: officially) not a PSB single. - If PSB themselves consider it a PSB single is completely irrelevant. PSB are artists, they are NOT the official charts organisation.
Hello DJ Culturemix. Or do you consider that a completely separate single to DJ Culture?
DJ Culturemix is technically a seperate single, yes. Hence it's different NAME. It made #40 in the UK charts, check Polyhex again. In fact, it was released in this way for chart purposes. So it's not an example of a single that didn't apply to chart rules. Actually I don't understand at all why you mention it.
Seriously was a double A-side in the UK and Europe, as you know - Yet doesn't meet your bizarre requirement of appearing on PopArt. More hypocrisy in your criteria.
You're conveniently ignoring the fact that Seriously DOES appear on the PopArt DVD, where Absolutely fabulous doesn't. I never talked about requirements. I also don't understand what Seriously not appearing on the PopArt CD has to do with Absolutely fabulous technically being a PSB single or not. Was It Worth It also is a proper PSB single that doesn't appear on the PopArt cd, same goes for the original version of Opportunities, for instance.

Seriously probably wasn't included because it was 'only' a double A-side. I don't know, really... - And it's totally irrelevant for this discussion anyway. Was it worth it? wasn't included because it didn't make the UK Top 20. I'm sure you will be able to tell me why the seperately released single, and UK #6 hit Absolutely Fabulous is not on the PopArt cd, nor on the DVD (the DVD that *does* feature the original Opportunities, Seriously and Was it worth it?).

patrick wrote:dVTB - why don't we agree that PSB released a single called Absolutely Fabulous and that they consider it one of their own tracks as evidenced by its inclusion on myriad other PSB releases. Whether this "technically" makes it a PSB single or just a single released by PSB can remain up in the air and we'll shake hands and move on. :)
I don't agree with the statement you present now, especially the final sentence. I have no huge problems with the first sentence, but the last sentence should read: However, it technically, officially never was a PSB single, because it was released under the artist name Absolutely Fabulous and also appeared in the charts under that artist name.

Only if you agree with that final sentence, we're done discussing. Otherwise we'll just continue, mr Z....

You said this: Show me a 7-inch, cd-single or 12-inch maxi single saying "Pet Shop Boys - Absolutely Fabulous" then.

So if you're reduced to lying I think we're pretty much done here. Although I must thank you for the endless amusement provided by the hilarious notion that a Pet Shop Boys single can somehow "technically" not be a Pet Shop Boys single. Cheers!

I'm perfectly aware of that particular sentence. Would you mind telling me where in this sentence you read the word 'sleeve'? The reason why Absolutely fabulous is technically not a PSB single were explained in length.

I conclude that you:
- fail to show official charts data that show Absolutely fabulous is a single released under the artist name Pet Shop Boys.
- fail to explain why Absolutely fabulous doesn't appear on PopArt; not on the CD, nor on the DVD.
- got several 'facts' wrong in this whole discussion, where all facts I posted, are correct.
- conviently ignore arguments that you can't tackle.
- chose to ridiculize me, in order to make your own opinion more credible.

I'm glad you're done now, though.

Where else would it be written? I dare you to quibble and say the disc art, because I'll be whipping out the several PSB discs that say nothing on them. God knows how you process white labels!

I think the fact that you don't think Unfinished Sympathy is a Massive Attack single pretty much wraps up this thread.

Oh, I'm pretty sure that all PSB singles have the artist name and the song title writter either on the sleeve or the cd itself. In fact, the artwork of the Absolutely fabulous single has the following on its side: ABSOLUTELY FABULOUS ABSOLUTELY FABULOUS [cat.number]

Unfinished Sympathy is technically not a Massive Attack single, since the group changed their name in Massive at the time. Check [whatever site you prefer for offcial charts data] for the chart runs.

I think the following sums up this thread:
- Your failure to show official charts data showing Absolutely fabulous being a single released under the artist name Pet Shop Boys
- Your failure to explain why UK #6 hit Absolutely fabulous is not on the PopArt cd or dvd
- Your errors

If it makes you happy, you can have the sleeve point. But its still 3-1.

Oh I see. So now you're changing your position on the artwork again. I wonder what you make of the many white labels have mention neither artist nor title anywhere. Either way this is an arbitrary opinion on your part. And as long as you're "pretty sure..."
Unfinished Sympathy is technically not a Massive Attack single

*insert giant yawning emoticon*

OK, I lose. I give up. I bow my head in shame.

White labels are of course exactly the same as officially released singles.

The fact that Unfinished Sympathy appears on Collected (as I already wrote earlier), is of course the official proof that Absolutely Fabulous was technically a Pet Shop Boys single.

The fact that the Absolutely fabulous sleeve has the words "Absolutely Fabulous" on the side twice, is of course just a little misprint.

The fact that Absolutely fabulous doesn't appear on PopArt cd and dvd, can be explained by the simple fact that they forgot out it, by accident.

Official charts data mean nothing.

Patrick is the best debater in the world.

Bye :D

Are you now claiming that white labels aren't official?
The fact that Unfinished Sympathy appears on Collected (as I already wrote earlier), is of course the official proof that Absolutely Fabulous was technically a Pet Shop Boys single.
Well it disproves the logic behind your argument, yes.
The fact that the Absolutely fabulous sleeve has the words "Absolutely Fabulous" on the side twice, is of course just a little misprint.
No, it's a joke you didn't get.
The fact that Absolutely fabulous doesn't appear on PopArt cd and dvd, can be explained by the simple fact that they forgot out it, by accident.
There are myriad possible explanations. That we don't know the reason doesn't mean that your arbitrary hypothesis is correct. Your constant moaning about PopArt is based on hypocrisy due to How can you expect to be taken seriously and also relies on your arbitrary requirement that we ignore Various.
Official charts data mean nothing.
The "official" chart occasionally makes a judgment call based on opinion. When the artists themselves dispute these judgment calls it becomes nothing short of asinine to quibble.
