Another "Integral" single thread...
Bring on Integral... This song is simply mindblowing... I mean it has everything a PSB song should have , I introduced PSB to 2 friend because of this song...

In retrospect Integral probably should have been the second single from Fundamental but it's very easy to comment with hindsight. Hopefully it will be released as the fourth single to tie in with the European leg of the World Tour early in 2007.

Integral went down a storm at the Isle of Wight Bestival. I couldn't believe the positive reaction it got from the crowd, especially considering it was probably the first time most of them had heard it. Maybe they connected instantly with the lyrics (or maybe just the great production). Think it was my favourite of the night, actually.
Should definitely be the 4th single. It'll be a waste of a tune if it doesn't come out.

But wouldn't that be stealing Erasure's annual single release date?pulse wrote:I believe it will be a single - released on January 8th, 2007.
I think it's extremely unlikely that there will be a fourth single from the album. Minimal did absolutely nothing for the album sales, so unless Numb miraculously revives the album (I don't think it will), EMI is not willing to continue the Fundamental campaign.

Although I agree with that, Eldritch, it's very unusual for PSB not to release a single to coincide with a tour, so for that reason I think Integral may yet see the light of day as the fourth single.Eldritch wrote:But wouldn't that be stealing Erasure's annual single release date?pulse wrote:I believe it will be a single - released on January 8th, 2007.![]()

Hindsight?! That's what many of us were saying all along. Fundamental had two obvious singles. To not release Sodom and Gomorrah show and Integral from that album can only be explained by incompetence.Kris wrote:In retrospect Integral probably should have been the second single from Fundamental but it's very easy to comment with hindsight. I've never rated S&G to be honest. I think it's a PSB showtune-by-numbers which, like New York city boy, would only really work in the context of a live show, where its flamboyance would stand out properly. On the album I think it sounds a bit weak and understated and I don't think it ever had significant hit potential. I do really like the "sun, sex, sin, death and destruction" middle-eight, though.
On the subject of Integral, yes, there have been lots of people championing it from the start but equally, loads of people thought Minimal was a sure-fire hit too. You can bet your bottom dollar that had Integral been released second and underachieved a la Minimal, there would be tons of people on here whining that the boys had made a huge mistake in not releasing Minimal second.
Ultimately, I think "incompetence" is too strong a word - Fundamental has sold far better than Nightlife and Release did here in the UK, and that was largely on the back of I'm with stupid going top 10.
For what it's worth, I think Integral is a great song and would have made a good follow-up single (and it might yet be released) but I don't think it would have improved album sales in any way as it's still essentially a 'fanbase' song - and the fanbase would have already bought the album.
