Being Boring with Montage

I recently bought "Montage" dvd....not that i really needed that but because i wanted to place myself among the collectors that have all psb items.My god....its was exremely dull and boring and i am lucky i wasn t in any of those concerts.In fact i have been to 4 psb concerts and i have the same feeling.They desperately need a stage-designer, a custum expert and somebody to do some choreographies...!!! We all love Psb , we all give lots of money to buy their stuff and we ll always have them in our hearts.....but please Psb don t even try to change the situation.They pick wrong songs to be singles, they don t care about their companie's movements, they don t care if the number of their fans is reducing single by single......and if some of the cd buyers still buy some psb stuff is just because they remember the old good PSB.
Sorry if thats too hard to read but i face it everyday and it looks like its true.We used to have many many fans here in Greece (giving them big sales) but all of them are very let down the last few years and their singles and cds take some bad shelves on record stores.
Sorry i wrote so many but it was just a complain form an eternal fan !!!!

Well, the thing with montage is : the DVD doesn't reflect the mood of the actual concert.

The nightlife tour was minimal, moody and dark. I don't hate Montage but I would have love a Moody DVD experience... not a Montage of crappy stock shot with a hand held camera... (witch is actually quite different for a PSB release and probably why they went that way with it).

Well the costumes (which are actually fantastic) were designed by Ian Macneil, who is arguably the most sought-after and respected designer in the West End and the setting was the work of Zaha Hadid, one of the most inventive architects of current times.
The live versions of ‘Only The Wind’, ’Was It Worth It?’ and ‘Can You Forgive Her’ are sublime. Maybe you’re a closet Erasure fan?

I have to agree with Native... The DVD doesn't do justice to the actual show. I'm not a fan of the dancers, but the stage was great, and well as the new versions of old songs. My favorite moment is probably seeing Neil and Chris playing the keyboards side by side.

There's actually a Zaha Hadid exhibit at the Guggenheim museum in NYC right now. I was hoping there would be a mention of the PSB stage, but there wasn't. Nevertheless, the Nightlife tour was great.

I agree with all on this topic. The DVD does not do the actual concert the justice it deserved, just like the Touring the Angel DVD does not do the concert justice either.

ladbtm....just think of yourself as very unlucky that you didnt attend this tour as the bass rumbling under you for the first song set the night alive and continued to be excellent. try and find for your own good on chapter 11 or 12 or something and it'll be better

The concert was *awesome*. You just had to be there... the atmosphere stage set design just perfect. Oh and that Intro!

Goodness knows what they did or tried to do with the DVD. I bought it so many years ago and struggled to watch it just twice. Totally ruined it. So, no means of reliving the memories. Really, they should have left the stupid effects out.

The boys make truly great music. I don't think anyone can beat them as recording artists!!

However, they are a poor live act on the visual side. They just don't have the stage presence of Micheal Jackson, Madonna or Justin Timberlake. No one expects the boys to be able to defy the laws of gravity like Jackson. They have improved over the years with backup dancers and light shows. Tennent has made a great effort to get around on the stage more. Ill never forget seeing them on TV in the 80s performing West End Girls.
Niel had a cowboy hat on and stood in front of the mike to sing the song. He did not move an inch during the whole song!!! I'm not even sure that he blinked.

I have Montage and hate the thing. I also have Somewher and it is very good, I enjoy it every so often. I must say that I was very surprised when seeing them do sodam. It was great The best stage show I have ever seen them do.

to paninaro28................my friend the fact is that i did watched the whole concert Live and i believe it was a poor and cheap show...but we can not agree on all things.... I want to see a real show and not to wait untill the 11th chapter to feel better...(thank god its dvd and you can move the chapters quickly).....and i have an advice....i don t think i like psb more than you or anybody else fan but the exaggerated love on something ,sometimes makes us blind to all bad critics......

chapter 11 or 12 is the start of the concert tho.

The 'mirror' effect on the DVD is painfully bad on some of the songs...

Being Boring is the wrong version to do live, and it was a cold, freezing night in Plymouth.

I remember that night clearly.

The DVD is almost a different show entirely!!

Look back at the Pet Shop Boys' work and you will notice how they like change. The Nightlife tour Dvd was certainly that. It gives us something different to visually enjoy. (Get to use the Angle button on the Dvd remote, a least). The song list was extensive & perfect. In my eyes & ears it is a valuable product in the work of the Pet Shop Boys. True value for money, both the experience of being there & reliving that experience again, again & again....
