Albums and Further Listening--what am I missing?

#1 Post by EricMontreal22 »

If I have all the albums in the 2 disc Further Listening editions but not Alternative, what am I missing in terms of bsides and bonus songs from 1984-1997? Everything but remixes by other producers/djs.

I'm a fairly recent PSB collector so don't have all the old bonus discs and singles...

Thanks guys :)

Well it would mean buying two albums again! I already have 3 copies of Bilingual and Very!

Very Relentless

The first 15,000 copies of Very came with a bonus 6 track CD which let our dear Chrissy lose.....goes on eBay for a fair amount

Bilingual Special Edition

Re-released Bilingual to include Somewhere...also includes other remixes....not essential if you already brought the CD singles

Ya I've been looking for Very Relentless especially since I like Chris' stuff so much... I guess I'll keep looking...

Isn't the only Bilingual special edition track that isn't a remix by someone else the extended mix of SOmewhere--where is on the Further Listening? or...?

thanks!

- a slightly different version of A Man Could Get Arrested (12-inch version)
- the 7-inch b-side version of A Man Could Get Arrested
- the 7-inch version of Paninaro (the 1986 b-side)
- a slighty different version of I Get Excited
- the 7-inch version of Don Juan
- the 7-inch version of Losing My Mind
- the 7-inch version of We All Feel Better In The Dark
- the 7-inch version of Music For Boys (a.k.a. part 1)

With '7-inch version' I mean the versions that appear as b-sides to 7-inch singles, and the way they are included on Alternative.

There are some different, more 'standard' versions of the same b-sides on Alternative. If you bought it you'd get the following tracks from 1985 - 94 not on the FLs :

A Man Could Get Arrested (alternative intro)
Paninaro (normal version)
I Get Excited...(earlier fade out)
Don Juan (normal version)
We All Feel Better...(normal version)
Losing My Mind (1991 b-side mix)
Music for Boys (normal version)

The only other b-sides from this period missing are Pet Shop Boys (a pre-Parlophone track) and Can You Forgive Her (swing version) which is only available on Yesterday, When I Was Mad CD-single.

I did a research about what´s out from the further listenings time ago but included on other album releases (not singles and not counting remixes by other people):

On ALTERNATIVE you´ll find:

.A man cound get arrested (remix)
.Paninaro (7")
.I get excited (early fade)
.Don Juan (7")
.We all feel better in the dark (7")
.Losing my mind (7")

.Music for boys (part I)

On DISCO:

.In the night (remix)

on the Japanese BEHAVIOUR:

.This must be the place...(full lenght Extended Mix)

.The complete RELENTLESS album (6 tracks)

On BILINGUIAL REMIXED:

.Somewhere (Extended Mix)
.The boy who couldn´t keep his clothe on (International mix)

on ESSENTIAL:

.Domino dancing (alternative version - early fade)
.West end girls (dance mix - as the one on Please FL but at a slightly faster speed)
.Opportunities (full lenght original 7" version)

on DISCOGHRAPHY:

.West end girls (7" version) early fade
.Opportunities (New 7" version)
.Suburbia (7" version)
.Always On My Mind (7" version) early fade
.Heart (7" remix)
.DJ Culture (7" version - early fade)
.Was It worth It (7")

i think that´s all from that era...on PopArt you can find a few extra things too...

I highlighted on red what I think really deserves some attention...the other things are more or less the same you can get on what you already have...

Eric,

I have a friend (he lives in our city) who I'm pretty sure has several copies of Very/Relentless. I'm sure he could sell you one for a reasonable price.

Let me know if you're interested, and I'll ask him :)

Cheers,

I have a Canadian issue, but it's unsealed I'm afraid. There were only something like 2,000 Canadian editions made. I think my friend has about 6 maybe 10 VeryRelentlesses, so he may have what you want. I'll let you know in the next couple of days.

The CD single of Left To My Own Devices has the 7" version of The Sound Of The Atom Splitting, which is different to the 12" version which appears on Alternative and the Introspective Further Listening.

Thanks guys! I do own DIscography actually--shoulda been clearer. I guess I'll get Alternative eventually but honestly having extended editions instead of the 7" edits doesn't bug me much

Well, in most cases the 7-inch version is more or less 'captured' within the extended versions. Only the 7-inch of Music For Boys is rather different from the Ambient version (also known as part 2) on the Behaviour Further Listening disc. The 7-inch has several elements that can't be found in part 2.

Also, just to point out, that the 7" versions are NOT edits, rather they are the 'normal' version, whereas the extended are remixes.

Hopefully one day they might finally get around to releasing remastered versions of Heart (single mix) and Was it Worth It (single mix) or for that matter Opportunities (85 single version) . They've technically had two opportunities, with both the Further Listenings and PopArt but don't seem to want to. Desperation to keep Discography on the shelves, maybe?
