Is Numb about to be PSB lowest charting single?

I have hardly heard Numb on the radio (Its on Capital's playlist but despite constant listening I'm yet to hear it played) have only seen 1 ad (half a page in yesterday's Observer Music Monthly, promoting the single, Concrete, Life in Pop and Catalogue), the videos not on any of the music channels, cd not stocked in Woolies, and it isn't even reviewed on Teletext (normally big PSB promoters) or in Metro

It's all pointing towards a non-top 20 moment! Eek. Forget about Integral then guys.

The answer to your question is yes unfortunately. Some may say it's a beautiful track (i.e. us within the PSB camp..) but most i've played it too cringe.

It sounds like a song written for the winner of The X-Factor was a comment put to me.

Whatever happened to the days of remixed album tracks released as singles..

I will never figure out why they bothered to release this rubbish thing; if they were planning to fly on the wings of Dianne whatsoever, they should have released it as a first single and promote it ad naeusam to the hungry masses of trash ballads in USA; has anyone other than members of psb forums heard that a third single (and a very unPSB one in the first place) is being released from Fundamental?

I guess they are hoping to be discovered by some popular culture media like BBC (again) for use in some crappy movie or event, or to strike gold like Savage Garden who were on their way to forgotten realms after the unperforming second single but suddenly turned their luck when the whinny, silly Truly Madly Deeply incredibly hit number one in USA.

The answer is "yes". Anyone with any sense could have told PSB so from the beginning.

I realize I will look stupid if Numb turns out to sell like hot cakes, but it will be a cold day in hell before that happens.

Does it strike anyone else as odd that in a fortnight when they have four major releases in the UK (Numb, Concrete, A Life in Pop & Catalogue) they are off in the US touring? Call me obtuse but I would have thought it made more sense to start the tour in the UK now to help promote this myriad of new releases and material. Anyway, it seems the UK generally has been rather underwhelmed by Numb, so I have to agree that it looks almost certain to miss the top 20, sadly

The consensus in the Chart Refugees forum seems to be that Numb will chart in the lower end of the top 30 (#27-30).

PR disaster actually.........a big investment has been made in releasing all this stuff and they are not here to support it. Well planned Boys!

Having said that, they have done the pr 'rounds' twice this year already, though in an age where the media is desperate for material, they could have done yet more without re-visiting previous outlets.

Anyway, they did the Paul O'Grady Show recently, and as we all know, that demographic is perfect PSB audience!

I didnt like it when i first heard it. When my gran died, i played it and it turned into one of the most important songs theyve evermade. It's like when u fall out with a gf and play always on my mind. I hope it does well.

i wonder how much better PSB's career would be going if the "experts" here were running it.
N&C make the decisions they can, but they cant control everything (i.e. S&G as the first single?)

i hope Numb does well. i still think he could be a US hit, given the proper promotion - these days that would mean exsposure on a TV show.

the problem is lack of promo. It is okay for us fans we know it is being released but casual buyers don't. I have not seen the video on the box or if I am honest any music channel. This coupled with lack of outlets stocking imo could see numb bing about 26.

Also as said it is stupid to release something then buggerof to another country, so as not to be around to promote it.

Probably. I doubt very much they'll ever have a big hit again, I'm with stupid did well coz it was the first single. Perhaps they should release 2 singles before an album comes out...

I saw the video on B4 last night, first time I've seen it on the telly except for a clip on the Paul O'Grady show.

I still stick by Numb being the third single. Rather have one of the slow songs (Numb is the only slow song that is single material) then another up-tempo track.

I think it is, yes. Although we should add that PSB are mainly a fan-based band, and even the poorly distributed Minimal reached #18, mainly because loyal fans went through all the trouble of finding their copy.

Those fans will probably do the same with Numb, although I fear that it won't be enough to achieve a top 20 entry. I think a #27-30 result is a bit too negative. I'd rather go for #22 or #23...

To me its fairly obvious why Numb was chosen as a single - because it's written by Diane Warren. With such a prestigeous songwriter, whatever your opinion, it would most certainly have been in the contract that it had to be a single. In fact, it was planned to be included on PopArt so would have been a single back then.

In normal circumstances we wouldn't have had a third single of Fundamental after poor sales of Minimal, so all those people wishing Integral to be the next single (including me) are kidding themselves because its not going to happen. The Fundamental era is over.

....hope I'm proved wrong though...

Sorry to hear about your gran.

But lets face it, most people havent just lost a relative and will think the song is an absolute crock of shite.

I'm sorry but this is the WORST POSSIBLE single choice from the album, no-one outside the hardcore fan base will like it, and hell, even a large proportion of the fanbase hate it.

Its dull, its cheesy, its just a terrible choice for the single. In fact, I am writing the Pet Shops Boys off for the moment. They just make too many plainly stupid decisions, frankly its a waste of time supporting them.
