What a treat Concrete is. I never heard the Radio 2 broadcast so was looking forward to the album. Great orchestration, Neil in fine voice and also very funny. He is so likeable, don't you think? Before ILTR when he says "the start sounds like the Hovis 'ad", I had a laugh. All in all confirms that he doesn't take it all too seriously (unlike most folk on here!)

Highlight: Casanova in Hell. Rufus Wainwright makes the song his own. My other half (a PSB convert) was like "what an amazing song". I said its on "Fundamental". Have to say Rufus makes you appreciate just what an amazing song it is. The sign of a truly great songwriter.

Nice one PSB/ BBC and everyone involved. Would have loved to have been there.

Were you at the Mermaid Theatre to witness this fine show ?
Any info & insight as to what the Performance looked like ?

Rufus has a good voice but I can't help thinking he doesn't do the song justice. His voice is repetitive and undynamic. It ends up sounding flat and dull.

No. The cd was my first experience of it. From the photos inside (cum in my pants artwork as usual) it looked like there was a big old orchestra there, with Neil and Chris two wee dots at the front.

Luna Park sounds brilliant too.

LOL! As a non-native English speaker, I understood something completely different. I thought Neil said: "It start a bit like a hopeless advert" ..

Hovis is bread. The ad is depicting an ye olde English village setting, bread baked the traditional way kind of thing. I always knew it reminded me of something but couldn't place it.

Can't decide which half is best, CD1 or CD2.

I'd go with CD1 at the moment cos of After All. Left to my own devices & Sodom & Gomorrah are great too. But CD2 has Numb & It's Alright which I think are great too. (I had forgotten how good It's Alright is). Funniest bit for me is when Neil says after It's Alright, "that's an old rave classic, well it is". Brilliant.

Oi, Dave. Don't ever diss Sylvia. She still sounds and looks amazing after all these (loyal) years. I won't hear a word said against her.
Plus, that bit really reminds me of Pink Floyd and is thus brilliant.

The picture on the inlay pretty much sums up how it looked, although it does seem to look bigger than it was in reality.

Most of the time Neil stood in the middle, Chris sat to the side or nipped off the side of the stage since he didn't have anything to play.

The main exception was for After All, which had a screen come down and the Odessa Steps portion of the film was projected at the same time.

All in all though, you don't really lose much by not being able to see it - it's one of the few times I've been at a PSB gig and felt that a live CD would be better than a DVD.

Rufus and R Williams ruined those 2 songs. Voices not suited at all to the fragility of those tracks.

Our ears don't hear the same thing. Not regarding the Rufus rendition anyway.
