We're The Pet Shop Boys

#1 Post by Docoboy »

Is Robbie's version of We're The Pet Shop Boys the same arrangement as the PSB version? I'm assuming that the instrumentation and mix is the same, just with Neil's voice taken out and Robbie's voice dubbed in.

Or is it a completely new "take" on the song?

The arrangement sounds the same. It's the production that has received a make-over. It sounds erm.... more powerfull I guess, Robbie's vocals are good. Do not expect big differences.

So I can claim my 'pedant of the day' award, isn't it 'We're the Pet Shop Boys'?

It's the same, his voice has been tweaked quite unnaturally imo, thus clearly not as good as the 'original'.

It's the same. I was thinking about that as well.
And PSB's is better.

Do you think so? I don't consider this 'make-over' an improvement. The only change I could hear was that the intro synth line has more reverb. It sounds rather messy, compared to the PSB version.

Actually, I think Robbie sings over the PSB demo version of the song. Listen to the way the song ends. That's identical to the PSB demo, except for the vocals continuing.

The official version is a b-side to Miracles, in fact. Flamboyant's only bonus track is I Didn't Get Where I Am Today.

The three (well, four counting the PSB demo) versions of this song are virtually the same...not new arrangements, not new lyrics, not new anything, nothing to justify a cover IMO...
I found just weird the pure fact that an unknown band create a song named "We're the PSB"...then, even weirder when months later the PSB themselves covered it just doing an imitation of the original, and then, short time later, Robbie Williams doing it too!! We're the Pet Shop Boys! Everybody seems to be the Pet Shop Boys! Isn´t this TOO weird?
This is not my signature.

lol..it is weird. i mean psb covering it is fine (after all its about them) but robbie williams doing it seems just pointless and....weird.
PSB's version is the best version. the original isn't that great IMO. neil's voice and the production just make into a 100% psb song even though it isn't :)

Correcting the punctuation? Neil Tennant would be proud. :)
