Plus the fact that the narrator of the song isn't necessarily underage. One can still be going to school and be of consenting age. In my high school graduating class there were more than a few 19-year-olds who had failed a grade or two along the way. And then there's college....patrick wrote:Nevermind that heterosexual rockstars have made careers out of singing about underage schoolgirls.

well as long as gays think of themselves as on the same level as jackassed rock stars into little kids.me I like to think gays are a little more refined but hey whatever floats the predators boat.patrick wrote:Nevermind that heterosexual rockstars have made careers out of singing about underage schoolgirls.glennjridge wrote:if gay people are going to constantly take us straighties to task for any percieved slights against gays I see no reason why gays themselves need to feed ammunition to damage their own cause by needing to show a homosexual preying on a same sex highschool teen.

Well is no secret, Neil said it himself, he likes his boys: young, slender, tender,-no hairy guys-, what does that tell ya?? If he's able to get them,hummm... no wonder he has this fantasy of being the pope, good thing he's not, the Vatican would be broke by now (just kidding...) NOT!!!

Nothing in the song lyrically is any worse than this old chestnut from the 60's by Gary Puckett (which I could imagine Marilyn Manson covering!)
Young Girl
Young girl, get out of my mind
My love for you is way out of line
Better run, girl, you're much too young, girl
With all the charms of a woman
You've kept the secret of your youth
You led me to believe you're old enough to give me love
And now it hurts to know the truth, oh
Young girl, get out of my mind ....
Beneath your perfume and make-up
You're just a baby in disguise
And though you know that it is wrong to be alone with me
That come on look is in your eyes, oh
Young girl, get out of my mind ....
So hurry home to your mama
I'm sure she wonders where you are
Get out of here before I have the time to change my mind
'Cause I'm afraid we'll go too far, oh
Young girl, get out of my mind ....
-------------------------------------------
On the other hand, the music of The Night I Fell In Love is pretty weak... I think I'd rather listen to Gary Puckett!
Retro.

As Wayne pointed out, there's no reason to believe Eminem is a "predator" in the song nor that the narrator is below the age of consent. That's all baggage you're projecting.glennjridge wrote:well as long as gays think of themselves as on the same level as jackassed rock stars into little kids. me I like to think gays are a little more refined but hey whatever floats the predators boat.
I'm also unsure why you insist on a double standard for straight and gay rock stars but I guess we'll just chalk that up to your history of homophobia.

yeah yeah yeah I'm homophobic, ANYWAYS
theres no evidence except from tennants mouth. unless you want to play high powered criminal defense attorney and now use your intellect to redefine the definition of what is meant by the term boy when added with the word school.do a good job as the rustling you hear is the NAMBLA lawyers grabbing pen and paper prepared to take notes.
but it doesnt even end there. I wish I could dig up that other quote I remember reading by tennant on that he changed that final line for a reason and it was to make it more creepy or something like that.maybe someone else can find it, but it just goes to show tennant had more sinister connotations to that last line than the whitewash presented here.
"Tennant, who is homosexual, said in a statement that if Eminem's music is going to be provocative, he is going to be provocative back.
"Eminem's defense of the homophobic lyrics on his albums has always been that he's not speaking as himself, he's speaking as a character, and he's representing homophobia in America," Tennant explained. "I thought it would be quite interesting to take that method and just to imagine a scene where a boy meets a famous rap star backstage at his concert and is surprised to discover he's gay and ends up sleeping with him. Just to present rap in this homosexual context. I mean, there obviously are gay rap stars.

the 'reason' is that the 'homosexual' isn't actually a homosexual but a homophobic rapper who specialises in ammunition of all kinds...
... as such, TNIFL is simply a response, and a very pithy one at that.

Neil: "...I was thinking of the boy as the schoolboy in Queer As Folk, someone like that... I put a little sting in the tail of the lyrics which wasn't originally in there, about 'already late for school'. Originally it ended 'that was quite alright, 'cause I'd had such an incredible night by then...' but I thought that was weak. And a kid of that age would say it was 'cool'."glennjridge wrote:I wish I could dig up that other quote I remember reading by tennant on that he changed that final line for a reason and it was to make it more creepy or something like that.
