Always on my mind on The Hits

#1 Post by Janet Street-Porter »

Bask in nostalgia and freak the nation out with glimpses of It couldn't happen here.

Always on my mind is selection 321 on The Hits at the moment.

btw, wasn't it exciting when the race for Christmas number one actually 'mattered' instead of being the traditional way for a pub karaoke act to begin their fifteen minutes of fame?

I totally agree. The race for the festive No 1 back in 1987 was exciting. Always on my mind was released on NOV 30, straight in at No 4 the following week then it was close between PSB & Rick Astley's When i fall in love. As we can blame Ricky for keeping What have i done to deserve this ? off the top spot back in the summer of 87, it was pure class to see my best ever PSB song oust Nat King Cole's cover to the top of the Crimbo tree. 4 glorious weeks at the top...Best Christmas present for me that year.
Now what have we come to ? X factor winner releasing a cover 1 WEEK before the Christmas chart...Manufactured tripe!
Merry Christmas Simon, Louis & Sharon!!!

I thought Always on my mind toppled Fairytale Of New York? I'm sure i remember the Pogues throwing a tantrum and demanding a recount.

And EMI re-released the original of When I Fall In Love as a spoiler. Brilliant!
