as heartbreaking as the liquidation of tower records is...

#1 Post by jhezbone »

for me as an avid cd/record collector, (been going to them sincce I was 12) at the Tower Records here in Chicago, copies of the *limited-edition 2CD* Fundamental is going for only $1.50!!!

I asked the store clerk at the Belden/Clark location for the reason and apparently, it's because Fundamental came out so close to the time they announced the liquidation that they were seriously overstocked with it. As a note, some other $1.50 cds are The Streets, Annie, Bloc Party, The Stills etc... not stuff that I would buy but definitely CDs I
would buy so I can sell them to purchase more PSB rekkids! :D

As it is last night, there were a decent amount of copies left even after I bought numerous copies to give for extra XMAS presents... so get them copies while they last!

Still, in spite of this advantageous deal, it's depressing that the only worthwhile deep-catalog record store is closing nationwide. Funny and slightly pathetic how one can attach so many nostalgic memories of their adolescence to a record store ...

Looks like they had big problems. They left these shores not long after the PSB Tower London signing.

Hell, buy the entire stock of cheap albums... I absolutely guarantee you'll get more than a buck fifty for each one.

What I wouldn't give to find brand new albums for 75 pence in record shops here!

I went to that store when on holiday a few years ago, bought tonnes of stuff, a lot of it pretty rare and the staff were really nice as well. Sad, the Tower Records at Piccadilly was fantastic with loads of imports, replaced by corporate, shitty, chart obsessed Virgin
Still waiting to hear the Adam Freeland, Manhattan Clique and Axwell mixes of Integral.

Tower Records is still very much alive and kicking in Japan, strangely.
Prick up your ears.

Amhilde-

Train-wise, it's off the Fullerton Red/Brown Line stop... just walk about a 1/2 mile east to Clark, then it's a block south on Belden.

Closest CTA route though is definitely the Clark-22 or Broadway-36 bus.

Haven't been back since I posted but I plan on it Tuesday... when they're supposed to drop the prices again.

Fingers crossed that I can still find some stuff worth buying...

Good luck!
