"I used to think PSB would be millionaires & they'r
(The shortness of the subject isn't my fault, but I tried to get to the point.)
So says Peter Hook back in November 2005:
"A lot of people have that misconception that as soon you get famous, you can take limos everywhere. They don’t realize you have the same problems as everyone else.
It’s the same misconception I used to have. I meet people and think they’re millionaires and they’re not. I used to think The Pet Shop Boys would be millionaires and they’re not! They’re skint! (Laughs) They have to do gigs to pay off their tax bill. It’s quite a popular misconception even amongst our own."
Wow. I can't believe that - nor do I necessarily believe that. Taking in considerations for publishing, etc...
Still here's the article to fuel fire:

Of course they're millionaires, though of course a great part of their fortune might be bound in property and other things they might not want to sell.
Having said that, we know that they have not shied away from losing money on tours and their last few albums can't have given them much in the way of royalties. I don't think they are that focused on money, to be honest.

It was a cough that carried him off. It was a coffin they carried him off in.

We talked about this a few times over the years, there was a fan who actually got online some financial tax returns for psb partnership.
I actually think that they have spent much more money on the Fundamental Album, tour and videos compared to the Release era.
I think they really make money on Festivals which is why they do them, they must get minimum $200,000.00 usd and they travel with the same set up and low budget musicians, they probably pocket after expenses $150,000.00 usd per festival?

And hasnt Chris said on many occasions that they make an album for the money (maybe said for fun, but he did say it on a show during the Release release..)

In their Imperial phase they had this (nauseating) "We dont do this, we dont do that"-attitude:
-No rock music /guitars
-No charitiy concerts
- Not saying something like "hello stockholm" on concerts
-No usual (Pop/Rock) Concerts
and more...
But now, they do all that.
And they do that now because they have 10 million pound each?
I dont think so.

There was an interview on MTV about the design of the VERY LP, and Neil said that they get 0,40 GBP per sold record, and that the extra cost for the production of the VERY cds is deducted from their royalties, they had to pay for the manufacturing themselves.
Okay, 0,40 GBP per sold record. I think they've sold about 40,000,000 records. That makes 16,000,000 GBP, 8,000,000 GBP for Neil and 8,000,000 GBP for Chris.
They truly are millionaires. Of course, they have spend a lot of it for Porsches, glasses, dresses, lofts, mansions, dogs, guitars...

PSB do whatever they want to do theese days. They're older and more laid back. You reckon they make more money from a tour by hiring a guitarist??
