a future album? (just asking, don't get excited)

#1 Post by jasonjohn »

i've often wondered with prolific artists (such as PSB) whether they build up a storage of songs they like but not ready to release -- with the intention of releasing them later in their careers as either a treasure trove to fans, or as a high point in their twilight years

i wonder if this is likely for PSB? or is things like the Ballet simply a new outlet for old unreleased material

most of us in this discussion group has a PSB demo or unofficial recording that they love, right?

To answer your question, I am going to give you an example. One of the demos to 'Living Daylights' is almost unknown and never got released, while the other had become the base of the song 'This Must Be The Place I Waited Years To Leave' some years later.

PSB have always maintained that they don't have many spare tracks at all. For the last number of albums they've published the studio diaries in Literally, so you can more or less count the number of unreleased tracks, although some become other songs later like "unbelievable scenes" that became "Fugitive".

I think so as well, or even in 2009.

"It´s fundamental that we do only exist in our own universe. When you like Pet Shop Boys, you are in our world. This is absolutely crucial to our entire outlook...what we do has an incredibly strong identity and applies only to us. It´s a case of not recognising the existence of anybody else!". Neil Tennant.

It could even be 2010. There was a 4 year gap between Release and Fundamental, so it could easily be the same. Especially if they go ahead with a ballet (which I don't think it such a bad idea, but I don't think many people here would agree with me)
I'm always waiting...
