Not Happy Jan About PSB in OZ
Hi all,
My name is Josh ,I have just joined the forum.I live in Melbourne Australia.
I just had to get this off my chest .I'm not at all happy about PSB only doing a solo gig in Sydney ,I mean what is that all about???As i'm new here i'm sorry if there's already been a thread here about this..
I saw them a the Mini V festival they were amazing but alot of people I know didn't attended V as they only wanted to see PSB and not the other performers .I can totally understand as I was bored Sh**less by the others..
Sorry to rant about this but this kinda thing is happening in OZ far too much lately.
I just hope and pray PSB do a full Australian tour again one day..
Hope this finds everyone well.
Josh

Oh Don't get me wrong , I am glad that they came to OZ I'm also glad you had a great time.
I think there was no Melb Solo show because the Mini V Festival didn't sell so well.If they had done a solo gig here it would have sold out!!
"The Forum" would have been Perfect ,I saw Howard Jones there last weekend. For those from the rest of the world ,there has always been a fierce rivalry between Sydney and Melbourne.Something that keeps being fueled by such things as concerts etc!

I understand your frustrations, but PSB were contractually obligated to the organizers of V while they were here. Last night's show at the Hordern was also presented by the V Festival. So if the organizers saw no value in presenting one-off shows elsewhere there was nothing the boys could do about it. It was pretty much the same for the other artists that came for V, most of them only did sideshows (all arranged by V) in Sydney that were announced at the last minute. I guess the organizers where trying to get as many people as possible to their festival events. We can only hope that next time (if there is a next time) that the boys tour it will be in their own right and not part of a festival. Let's not forget they have expressed interest in doing Potemkin at the Opera House at some point, so there is hope yet of their return.

Your logic does make sense Gardner, and worries me a bit. To be honest I really don't want to see them at a festival again, I'm too old for all that nonsense (even though I did enjoy seeing them). I still think it's possible they might come to Australia for something like the Adelaide or Sydney Arts festivals to do Potemkin or something similar. That would certainly appeal to Neil I'm sure. I'm sure they could incorporate smaller more intimate gigs into such a scenario that would not necessarily bankrupt them.TheGardner wrote:maybe it is hard to understand, but the only reason why the boys could play ´down under´ was V. I don't think that they can play single concerts in AU or NZ in the future. It always belongs to the money and playing at festivals is much cheaper on places which are far far from home.

Potemkin should be a reason for them to come back, because they really want it by themselfs and a major city will pay most of the costs. For all other: it will depend on several factors such as -already having some more venues in that area at that time and -having someone who will do all the needed work before (getting free places; trying to find the cheapest way to run as much venues as possible in a short period of time only and without losing too much money because of too big venues with half filled audiences).
From the point of someone, who works in that business, he always will comeback to them with the words: "...why you don't want to play festivals? It's cheap and I can easily manage that for you!"

I think PSB publicity has been neglected here.
And any tour has to make a profit.
I think another tour requires some publicity well in advance.
It may be worth it. I noticed positive f/b around town.
If in doubt use the taxi driver test.
On my way to the concert my driver said, "Ahh I love them, but did not know they are here".
And so the publicity does need to hit the 30 somethings.

The Gardner .... do you really believe that the PSB wouldn't make money touring "far far away from home" as you put it??? Major performers like Kylie Minogue and P!NK in the past 6 months have sold-out 21/22 arena shows around Australia (each night 10,000+ people)!!! I know the Pet Shop Boys wouldn't sell-out that many shows in Australia (or most other countries) but as stated above .... if they choose (it's their choice #1) to come back to Australia/New Zealand their local record company should properly promote their artist and local radio should promote their newer material.
Anyways when you consider that Sydney's V festival sold over 35,000 tickets and about half of those people watched the PSB (the other half watched The Pixies) as they were the headline acts, then another 'side show' with at least 2,000 people (and then Gold Coast, Melbourne and Adelaide shows too) .... I think the boys did VERY well down under

YOu should be happy that they even perform in Australia. The have performed only 2 gigs here in Finland, 1991 and 1997 and I became fan in 1999. I have seen them live 3 times now and will see them live next month again. Always abroad. It costs a lot so it´s only 1 gig in a year for me.
