Neil says "Nein" to Eurovision

#1 Post by bobblekat »

http://portal.gmx.net/de/themen/unterha ... mxeJQ.html

A random online article on why PSB would not participate at the Eurovision and why Neil thinks Morrissey would have been better than Scooch.

(Sorry, it's in German and I have no time to translate)
I went fishing with Salvador Dali; he used a dotted line.

From Google translator:

Tennant breaks lance for Morrissey.
Pet Shop Boys singers Neil Tennant holds not too much from the Eurovison Song Contest. “I do not know, how with you it is but the people in England take the competition not too seriously”, laugh the Britisher at the telephone on the question whether it pursue the annual meeting.
“Okay, Chris and I thought already times more drüber to write a Song for the competition. About it one can think already times. In principle I would not say however that England sends its best Songs into this competition”.
That the English formation Scootch threw the large rivals Justin Hawkins (ex-The Darkness) and Brian Harvey (ex-East 17) from running, is also only unimportant for Tennant therefore: “I liked really the idea that Morrissey takes part. That would have been also promising. The Songs, which fares with the Grand Prix best, has mostly Hooklines without text, thus about “Oooh ooh ooh ooh” or “Aaah aaah aaah”. Morrisseys Songs are full of it. In addition it would have sung well, most participants is not charismatic not straight.”
That likewise in the meantime as a participant acted Jarvis Cocker would have had fewer chances according to Tennant: “I find, write not completely as good melodies to Jarvis as Morrissey.” That its own volume will represent once England sometime, the Britisher regards as not very probably: “I am rather sure me that we would reject an inquiry.”

Not the best translation but you should get the idea. :D

No, I'm sure that's exactly how Neil put it. How very him!
It was a cough that carried him off. It was a coffin they carried him off in.

No problem. :)
It's sometimes interesting - and funny, to see what Google translator actually comes out with. I've had some hilarious results in the past.

Thanks to Neil for saying No. And Morrissey should (and would) do the same. The image of this contest in Germany was cheesy in the old days and nowadays it's a festival of bizarre but stupid performances. No one takes it serious. Nothing ever to pay attention to. PSB taking part would be below their dignity.

"...times more drüber...", "About it one can think already times"... Very good English, indeed!

I had to read the German text to understand what this curious sentence really means:
“I find, write not completely as good melodies to Jarvis as Morrissey.”

What Neil says is,
"I think that Jarvis doesn't write as good melodies as Morrissey."

Well, I think that he does because Morrissey doesn't compose his melodies himself...
Isn't it so with Morrissey that he "only" writes the lyrics and the co-writer for each song, like the guitarist of his band, is responsible for the music?

Thanks for the article. Maybe PSB should have tried to get on Eurovision this year. They would have visited Finland for the first time in 10 years.
Interviewer:
-What would you tell someone about yourself if you wanted to impress them?

Chris:
-I´ve got a 12-inch plonker.

Thanks for that, bobblekat. And the translation is...fun! Interesting to get a comment on Eurovision from one of them. It's not a surprise they wouldn't want to appear, though they could always write someone else a song, such as they did for Alcazar.
Scooch was probably the best out of the dire UK final. Apparently Scissor Sisters said in the "Copenhagen Metro Express" the other day that they don't like the Scooch song, but that they would like to enter at some point. The UK may not bother, but some countries come up with great songs, especially Sweden, who showed off about ten real winners during their selection. (The one by After Dark sounded rather Go West-esque though.)

Switzerland to win!

I know I pushed for Psb to participate some years ago, but this year with the absurdly low quality of artists and songs would just make them look bad. Like seeing the queen of England mingeling with thievs and gangsters or something...and I'm a huge fan of the contest!

You don't mess it up with Sweden, do you?

Thanks for your compliments about Sweden. Yes, we sure had many good songs in our selections this year. On the other hand, we always have!

The Ark to win! :P
