Yes, I agree. Lordi is a brilliant concept but the music is terrible. But that wasn't the point of this discussion. People here were saying that East European countries have won the contest because their neighbour countries block-vote for them. That has never benefited Finland and that was not the case with Lordi. We got 12 points from all over Europe. Now whether it's down to novelty or the quality of the song (*pfft*) is debatable, but it's clearly a fact that it won because it got votes from all over the Europe. So that's one case that's against your complaints of country A winning because sympathetic coutries B, C, D voting for it.dVTB wrote:One word: masksEldritch wrote:But how can you explain why Finland won it last year?
It surprises me that I have to tell YOU, a music journalist, why Lordi won Eurovision. It's certainly not because their brillant song, which is totally forgettable. It's because of their show, with the weird costumes and all that crap.
Eurovision has never been the source of classic pop music. Aside from ABBA, no major talents have emerged from that scene. It has always been trash and it always will be trash. Of course it's fun but there has never been a golden age of Eurovision when the music mattered. So deal with it.
