Integral is cheap, dated and predictable. Go West gone Chambawamba. We'd rather soon forget about it, it would be an embarassing single from a band like PSB (20 years+).
Time to bring on new material, with a NEW SOUND and FORGET the OTT CAMP EXTRAVAGANZA FOREVER
Greetings from Rome!

There are really some silly arguments going on here. Pet Shop Boys are a pop duo and so they have every justified right to go OTT from time to time...What is the basic idea behind pop music? It is PSB and a few bands around that push the boundaries of the pop to the intellectual arena, and make it sincerely, not fake ones like MJ's Earth Song or Madonna's American Life...but that doesn't mean that they have to be dead serious and didactic all the time.
Anyone complaining about the OTT thing should just look back their past. Boys have been doing this OTT/intellectual & counter-OTT thing very successfully from their first day...Each album brews with OTT and intellectual pop songs hand in hand...Perhaps for chart success perhaps for just staying mainstream or just remaining popular, they inject OTT songs between "clever" things Where the Streets have no name, Go West etc..Behaviour is followed by Very Nightlife is followed by Release...They are always very cleverly playing with this idea and that's why they are still popular with both music industry and music fans.
If you are always OTT and campy, like Erasure, no one minds you except your rabid fans; if you are too intellectual or try to be so, like U2, you are discredited, or simply blamed to be bland...PSB, and some other bands set this balance very well so I really admire them in this respect.
Integral is the campy side of Fundamental, actually a dark and hard album, and even in this form it is not a per se I love you you love me song; remember Opportunities or Rent? When they had been first released, everyone had laughed at Boys and blamed them for materialism...Only years later it was understood that the Boys were trying to say something else.
People saying Integral is dated, and a mainstream Ibiza music; you are really funny, aren't you? Do you know anything about the Boys? They have been doing this kind of music for 25 years, or since their beginning. It is not a long way from Please to Fundamental, is it? They have made some experiments or tried new things but they always wrote mainstream Integral-like pop songs...What do you expect them to do? To go AC/DC?
Integral is a good, stomping, trade mark PSB song with all glorious failures and strengths of Boys and many bands could even not conceive it....Because it is more than one year now, it may be in need of remixes but that's all.

The CELL by Stephen King instantly hit number 1 in New York Times Bookseller Lists selling well over 200 thousand copies in three weeks. This affirms my opinion: People really need an occassional good horror read...

Unfortunately I have to agee with the sentiment of the initial post on this thread. I don't think its a good single, far too reminiscent of pat and mick for me and I don't think it will do anything to persuade non pet-heads that they only do 4 on the floor hi-nrg stompers
Its too late now but I would like to call the Fundamental era over
And as for another TH production for the next album.. no thanks
Time to move on in my opinion
I would like to see Chris and Neil do a 'minimal' album with just synths and much less of the orchestral bit. A bit of Chris jamming would be great on each track.
But I'm rambling... IMHO.. Integral was a good album track end of. Hopefully.

I think the lyrics are the main reason the song will never be released as a single. A song about local UK political matters doesn't sound to me like a hit in Italy...or wherever. And ten years from now it will seem very dated appearing on their latest greatest hits collection...Or make that the singles collection cause a hit it wont be.

There is no need to get back to the OTT productions of the beginning. That's what made them famous, now they can afford to experiment instead of repeating themselves. The OTT thing must go forever, really. The future is Electro HouseDreamcatcher2003 wrote:There are really some silly arguments going on here.
