"Integral" vs. "TSAGS"!

#1 Post by singysingysingy »

I agree with everyone who praises "Integral" and wants it as a single, but I always wonder why "TSAGS" doesn't get the same attention and support? IMO both songs are outstanding and should /must have been singles from "Fundamental". "TSAGS" also gets fantastic reactions at the show and is a song which screams for a single release with a controversial video! So let's not overlook "TSAGS" while we hype "Integral"...

The Sodom and Gomorrah Show is most definitely not single material, it is not poppy enough and probably wouldn't get much airplay given it's lyrical content. I don't think there will be another single from Fundamental, actually.

That's been said by others also.

Can't say I agree.

Singles need to have a hook. The listener should walk away and be able to
whistle/hum some of the song after one or two listens.
Otherwise it's only us buying.

I don't think Fundamental is about singles anyhow (including Integral).

Shame, but that's how it is.

I'm really surprised..."Fundamental" no single material? "I'm with stupid" , "Integral" and "TSAGS" have amazing hooks imo and "Numb"-the song which tunred me into a PSB fan and made me buy this album is so emotional and touching while I tend to agree "Numb" might not be single material no matter how good this song is... :(

TSAGS is Pet Shop Boys meets the Buggles. I love it.
Integral is Pet Shop Boys meets Frankie goes to Hollywood. I love it.

So, where we get "Pet Shop Boys meets Yes"?
"I think it’s an amazingly good album, I’ve got to be honest with you. It’s one of the albums I feel most proud of. But for people who don’t really know us, and have a sort of an idea about us, ‘Electric’ is more what the Pet Shop Boys are meant to be."
(Neil Tennant, speaking about "Elysium" on the eve of "Electric" release.)

When Fundamental came out I was amazed by The sodom and gomorrah show. It's one of my fave songs on the album and I think it's a crime not to release it as a single.

If I remember well, the pets themselves said they wanted the song to be the first single off fundamental, but emi didn't allow them to do so. Unbelievable. You can have that horrible single version of numb, but not the hookiest song on the album.

As an ocasional dj as I am, I can tell the sodom and gomorrah show outstands, gets attention (even my mum used to whistle to it!). Would have been a great single. But not now, if there is a fourth single, I supose that Integral is the best choice.

The Sodom And Gomorrah Show is a great track, but if it had been a single, I bet we would have gotten the same complaints from people who labeled New York City Boy too camp.

Integral is a much better choice. It's a good song, it's well-produced, it sounds like vintage PSB and it deals with a real, current topic.

Why have a vs type of thread, they are both great songs in their own right. Integral is so over the top! I can't get enough of that song!

"vs" isn't meant in a hostile way, just to compare the 2 songs bc "Integral" is just everywhere while "TSAGS" is sooo overlooked and overshadowed and should get more attention. Agreed-both are great songs and therefor "TSAGS" shouldn't be forgotten!

The Sodom and Gomorrah Show should have been the first single and Integral the last.

I don't understand why some people call it camp, New York city boy and Go West are camp TS+GS isn't. I wanna hear the 7-inch version of TS+GS!

I think The Sodom and Gomorrah Show was considered as a single but, as I understand it, the BBC wouldn't play anything with 'Sodom' in the title.

But they performed "TSAGS" at the Radio 2 concert! So I guess it was on the radio...
