Anyone saying Scissor Sisters are either a "joke" or "crummy" is pretty much someone without any sense of taste or fun or pop sensibility whatsoever. They've been tremendously successful doing what they do, and sneering at their accomplishments, esp. in the US, is extremely petty. They make fun records and put on superbly energetic live shows.

Contra to what someone said above, PSB have never ever tried to "cater to a gay audience in the 90's", paraphrasing. Anyone who knows where they're coming from, or who were around then know this is false. Bullshit.

Surreal that this thread's question recurs like clockwork every six months, and that the people posting the question seem to have no idea of the immense changes and actually huge collapse of the music industry since PSB were on top. It's a different world and has been for ages.

I've nothing against Scissor Sisters but they do seem rather too derivitive of early Leo Sayer, Elton John, 10cc, etc.

I hate it when PSB too knowingly prostitute OTT 'gay' songs like Somewhere, New York City Boy and Saturday Night Forever.

I'd hate the boys to get involved with repetative school girl nonsense like justin trousersnake, and his silly twirly dancing with silly glitter lights in the video.

I want the boys to be the boys, to do what makes them happy and be comfortable.

Gosh i thought boy-band like music was something PSB fans didn't like, its certainly something the boys dont like. Individualism, not integralism

or someone new and edgy is all I want to get that fresh idea/perspective.

But how much of the 'gay' tag thing is true ? Erasure were always flamboyant and OTT and their album sales are not exactly much lower than PSB isnt it..when comparing the 80s-90s and now.

SS may not be huge on the singles charts now, but both their albums have sold million plus each, and that too within the UK alone !?!
Left to my own devices, I probably would...

Oh come on..."I don't feel like dancing" is most probably the BEST feel good song (Non PSB) there is!
About time we heard Neil's duet with Jake "I am what i am". Perhaps an EP titled "Carry On Camping (Pitch up a tent remix)

Paddymacall wrote:Well I think the PEt Shop Boys are still popular.. look at Scissor Sisters.. their single releases for Ta-Dah.. havent been doing very well... Land of a thousand words came in at No. 19 and Shes my man came in at No.29! and their latest release came in at No.43 - kiss you off... To conclude the Pets are more popular than the scissor Sisters! haha! I went off in a tangent!
the difference is that SS are very popular amongst the type of people who are told what to like and do their album shopping at Tescos - the singles haven't sold very well partly, I believe, because they have had bizarre track listings and included one track picture discs
Still waiting to hear the Adam Freeland, Manhattan Clique and Axwell mixes of Integral.
