Just wondering.....

#1 Post by Ronald42 »

We all (well almost all) want Integral to be released as a single. We're about to make it our favourite Fudamental track and we have, if released, high hopes for it. BUT we ranked Minimal on 3rd place and so it desevered to be a single and it was but it flopped or didn't do so well. Numb flopped, big time.
Now would Integral do so much better?? I wonder could we all be just, well, wrong?

Not now. Fundamental is dead in the water as far as any sales go. Most peole will have Integral anyway, due to the album doing well. Time to move on.

I don't want that damn song to be released. I wish they just hadn't written it

I do not worry that much about the sales of Integral, or about the public's reaction at all.

The reason I would personally like it to be a single are:
- the song is so good that it deserves the status of having a single release!
- there should be a good remix (or several) of Integral
- there should be a video for Integral
- if released as a single, there is a possibility of new B side songs
- if released as a single, I could buy ten copies of it and send them to my friends and tell, "listen to this great song!"

Well that's a given seeing as if it is to be a single then it would be to promote Disco 4, not Fundamental.

Exactly... I mean c'mon I'm with Stupid was the lead-off single ... Integral could've done way better again with the right video...

The music Video is NOT DEAD... thanks to the web. Make anykind of video ... if it's good people gonna look at it...

I'd love to actually be able to buy a physical single...My local Virgin Megastore no longer stock singles..cd, vinyl or otherwise. How the hell is a record supposed to chart if you cant even buy it? I cant see a casual fan driving around and around to find a cd single copy of Integral. I cant see a casual fan of ANY group driving around trying to find a copy of a single thats supposed to be out!! That god-awful Rhianna single has been number one for 8 weeks here in the UK and you cant even but a physical copy of that in Virgin!! virgin Megastore?? Poinless Megastore now!!!
is is and isnt isnt

Yep, I also wonder the faith of CD singles, as I hardly see them physically anywhere. After all, for a long time now, I've bought all my music from online record shops.

A good music video is really essential for a good song. I think it has been that way all the way PSB have made music, but with the help of YouTube it's even more important. The fan-made video of Integral still comes up very high in the results if you search for PSB in YouTube. Just imagine if it were an official video, which you could buy on a DVD single in high quality when you wanted to. I would really want to do that!!

The chart result of Minimal suffered under the poor tracklisting of the formats. Minimal would have done much better if it had been the lead single. In retrospect, I don't understand why the plan was changed.

Minimal doesn't really have a theme. Integral *is* about something. It will gather more media attention AND many critics consider it the best track on Fundamental. If you want to use the full potential of Fundamental, Integral should be a single.

***slightly off topic***

Talking about CD singles, Roisin Murphy released her (fantastic!) new single yesterday on downloads, CD and 12". For some reason though, they've given the CD a tracklisting that isn't allowed to chart and they've completely acknowleged this (well, a moderator at her forum), it's not a mistake. I'm not sure if the 12" is allowed to chart or not but the CD isn't.

CD
01. Overpowered
02. Foolish
03. Sweet Nothings
04. Overpowered - Seamus Haji remix
05. Overpowered - Kris Menace remix
06. Overpowered - video

12"
A1. Overpowered
A2. Foolish
A3. Overpowered - Kris Menace remix
B1. Overpowered - Seamus Haji remix
B2. Overpowered - Herve remix

If Integral is going to be released (getting sick of saying that *gives evils to OS*) then I hope they release one CD like that. Or at least a CD like the Numb single with two b-sides on because I only buy maxis and then only if they're worth it. The Roisin Murphy CD is worth it because the a-side is fantastic and goes on for over five minutes, two b-sides which are also good from the clips I've heard and two remixes (both of which are very good, the Seamus Haji not straying too far from the original). Also the video but I'm not bothered about having that on the CD, even though it's good, because I can just watch it online.

I think we will be just, well, wrong, to be honest. Integral is a solid and catchy PSB effort that appeals to most of the fanbase so it's unsurprising that it's being touted as a single. However, the singles chart is ultimately about what the general public likes, not what we like and unfortunately I see nothing about Integral that is going to appeal beyond the fanbase. Besides, apart from Radio 2, I can't see any other station playlisting it, particularly as it's not a brand new track, so most of the record buying public won't even know it exists.

Ultimately, I see Integral flirting with the top 15 in its first week and then slumping into oblivion as usual.

One more reason why I'd like Integral to be a single: It would be included in future compilations. Many great songs are overlooked and underrated because they never were singles. I don't want Integral to have that fate, it's all too great for that!!

Integral will be bought by us and ignored by the public.

Except,if it has the right video. And there is fantastic potential in doing a
great video for it. The Dr Who clip gives you an idea.

PSB have not been a blip on the horizon here for a decade.
But Im.W.S. got a play and a review on the leading mainstream radio show in Sydney.
Why ? Because its political slap in the face to Bush put it on the big stage of
the general public.

Do that again with a great video, something that will be played in years to come,
and Integral could do very well. Otherwise it is just going thru the motions. And
I dont think N+C are likely to stay interested doing that.

Integral is about now, the government id cards; which haven't as yet materialised, if they promote it in that way maybe it will do well. It is also a catchy tune and quite dancey, a good video would do the trick with Neil & Chris on the sleeve cover holding their fake id cards frowning lol
