I was going to mention this but you beat me to it!Dipso wrote:I believe that the Pets last contract with Parlophone expired on the day Fundamental was released - 22 May 2006. Have they really been out of contract for over a year? I don't quite know how one explains Concrete if that is the case, however
Me too. Regarding singles, I hope they do what Roisin Murphy has done with her new single; put too much stuff on it so it doesn't count towards the charts but the downloads do, lol. I don't care about the charts, I want value for money! 2+ b-sides on one CD = heaven.Phillip wrote:Very good news. I still want physical sales not just downloads, I can't put downloads on my CD shelf.

I think the music on concrete is owned by the BBC but i could be wrong.Dipso wrote:I believe that the Pets last contract with Parlophone expired on the day Fundamental was released - 22 May 2006. It's not only great news, it's a fantastic achievement. A 20+year old synth duo, still signing a contract with one of the biggest company's around. Their back catalogue is untouchable though. No one get's near the strength in depth. Well done Pets!

Technically Disco 4 won't count as one of the new albums. Album deals are usually done only on studio albums containing brand new tracks. So if this is a 5 album deal it means we should get 5 proper studio albums, plus the side projects like Potemkin, Concrete etc. It will probably keep PSB going for the next 10-15 years. Thier last deal was signed in 1990 and covered 6 studio albums.
I suspect that, as part of the deal, there is also provision for a single disc Greatest Hits. I also think this will come sooner rather than later (possibly after the next studio album). From Parlophone's point of view that is the big prize as it has the potential to shift big units for them.

I'm always waiting...

Congratulations to Neil & Chris & indeed Parlophone.
By the way, if you were in charge of compiling a single disc of Greatest Hits which "Hits" would you choose ?

Another greatest hits cd??? Why would they do that, with new cd covers and same songs? That would be milking the cow and I think they should wait untill more studio albums have been made and then possibly (with 2 - 3 new songs) make PoPaRt2 or Discography 2. I don't understand new releases like Elton John's recent collection (I don't know, no. 5 in the best of for him?), that pisses me a little bit off seing releases like that because it's always the same songs +/- a few.....
But if they were going to release a single greatest hits out of everything out to date it should definately be called:
Popartgraphy
or
Beenreleased (one word of course)
or
While we wait (for new stuff) including the hit single While we wait (for the new stuff)
Lyrics to that one:
"While we wait (for the new stuff),
sitting home watching Sho - nuff,
Rockwell rocks and he brags on
about this song from Last Dragon.
Peeping tom is his master
of puppets and disaster,
these lyrics suck
I'm uncle Buck.

I was dreaming of,
I need a...
new hope, new dream,

Bad idea. Singles aren't released to give customers value for money. Nowadays they serve as promotion tools for an album. There's no point in releasing a single if it's not going to appear in the UK chart. However, I *do* hope that the tracklistings for an eventual new single will be attractive.! wrote:Me too. By the way, I realised this only later when I thought of yesterday's news again: it's actually quite an achievement for Neil & Chris that Parlophone/EMI gives them a new record deal. So many similar artists switched labels, struggling to find a company that will release their output. And so many artists were already dropped. PSB, despite their age and despite not being as popular as in the 80s, got theirselves a new deal! It's actually worth a congratulation.

That's what singles have always been for but I understand your point. Well, I want at least two b-sides on one CD like Numb. I don't buy two-track singles because they're a joke and I'd rather have songs than remixes.dVTB wrote:Bad idea. Singles aren't released to give customers value for money. In Roisin's case, she's releasing another single before her album comes out at the end of the year so maybe the tracklisting for this single was a one off... also, there was supposed to be a seven-inch but it got cancelled so maybe one of the b-sides was supposed to be for that.

We are obviously all delighted as it means more music (hopefully) getting the support it deserves - not that that's always been the case!
How many other bands in this day and age have been on the same label for that period of time - this is a time when the industry is struggling as we all know. Great news but also a big slap on the back for the boys.

All I meant to say is that such a new record deal isn't a matter of course. It's an achievement, thanks to their creative output of the past 17 years. I don't see why you're so cynical about my remark.kimphilby wrote:Oh, is it really?
