'Song rating' on official site's jukebox?

#1 Post by Riikka »

I often listen to the official site's jukebox which seems to play PSB songs ramdomly. You can also select many songs to play from the 'Product' section.

A thought came up to me one day: what if there was a rating option for the songs played? It wouldn't have to be a 1 to 5 star rating, necessarily. It could be similar to that on last.fm, so you could just vote a plus for a song you like particularly, and possibly a minus for a song you don't like.

Or then there would not be an option for users to vote at all - the ratings would just be based on how often a song is played fully, and on the other hand on users skipping it, wanting to start the next song.

I think it would be highly interesting to know other fans' favourites this way. And even if the results were never published, wouldn't it be a valuable information for the statistics - and for the possible next single release?

I think even if this feature would be included, this statistics would not represent fans' choices, I'm afraid. I'm not sure if OS jukebox is worthwhile thing for any serious fan. To be honest, I doubt if anybody, even common people wandering on OS, would play it more than one time. We live in P2P ages. Personally I played it once, to hear and get mp3 of orchestral mix of "No Time for Tears" (because there is no official release, you know).
Instead of this, guess, in this matter you can quite rely on results of Geowayne's Rating Project.
"I think it’s an amazingly good album, I’ve got to be honest with you. It’s one of the albums I feel most proud of. But for people who don’t really know us, and have a sort of an idea about us, ‘Electric’ is more what the Pet Shop Boys are meant to be."
(Neil Tennant, speaking about "Elysium" on the eve of "Electric" release.)

that was the only reason I played it also. well also to hear one of those lemon jelly mixes of miracles. the jukebox selection is fairly standard stuff.

they could spice the idea up a bit and play somethin rare.
some bands do that with their website song players. everynow and then drop in soemthing only fans who drop in on the website can listen to.

Well, people use it differently I guess. Of course it is not worthwhile for a true fan (also because of the sound quality), but I did not mean it should reflect only fans' choices.

I have all my PSB music at home, and when I'm using a different computer and don't have any of my CDs with me either, that jukebox is the only way to listen to a lot PSB songs (nearly all of my favourites). As I'm a new fan, I'm not (yet) that keen on the different mixes except for my biggest favourites. That's why I made this suggestion.

Geowayne's rating project is excellent, but it should be going on all the time. I haven't had the change to participate in it.
