I was thinking mostly about what "dark" means in a musical sense, not so much lyrically, and Behaviour is by far the darkest album - musically - Pet Shop Boys have ever made.

Indeed. Dark can mean musically, lyrically or by subject (see Mack The Knife). It's all valid.

I usually find music dark or sad when the arrangement and melody are like that. The lyrics are a different case. Behaviour sounds to me quite dark really.

No thanks, I think I'll pass on that.
Now that's a dark record. And a classic.

I do not listen to any rap music so I will pass on that one. Its Smashing Pumpkins, NIN, Recoil, Marilyn Manson for me.

That album is one of the most accessible "gangsta" hiphop albums of all time, the one that started it all off.
The first and only "P-funk" hiphop album made up of funk samples. Brilliant.
But back on topic, "Release" was my dark hour, and "Birthday Boy" was my favourite track.....

I wonder if they look at Release as their Low/Heroes era?

But in all sincerity, Release can be construed as a dark album also.
