There's a good reason why it's called the music industry

From the Popjustice homepage:

The Chatter of Popjustice - What's being said on the Popjustice forums

Are the Popjustice viewers looking forward to the strange new Pet Shop Boys 'Disco 4' album?

Especially since most of the mixes chosen were commonly available, which means fans of those artists already have them. Why not go for some of the more obscure stuff that only appeared on vinyl or promo discs?

I consider Disco 4 nothing else then a cheap compilation to milk the loyal fanbase. Madonna/Killers/whatever fans won't become PSB fans because of hearing Disco 4. If the PSB remixes of their favourite artist appealed to them, they have already checked out PSB.
I don't know. Perhaps you're right, though I think it's a bit cynical to suspect them of something so blatant.
I don't say I suspect Neil and Chris personally, but what we're getting IS a Pet Shop Boys release. And it IS milking out the back catalogue.

But as PSB wrote themselves: You Choose
(which means you can also decide NOT to buy this compilation)

And all the comments about Disco 3 on here seem to be really positive – no-one's saying "Why isn't it just remixes? Why isn't there a picture of Chris on TV on the cover? It doesn't fit with the rest of the series, for God's sake!"
That's just fans being happy there were new tracks. There was never any point to the Disco series after the first one. Disco 2 is widely considered the nadir of their releases and Disco 3 is a curate's egg that doesn't make much sense as a collection.

OK, so not commercially available in the UK (or on import only).

More to the point, who on earth would have bought Disco2 just for that track?
People bought Disco 2 in 1994 because it was something different at that time (a Danny Rampling mix tape of PSB mixes, basically). Mix-cds were only just starting to happen around that time, so in 1994 it made some sort of sense.

In 2007, we (the fans) are again getting something a bit different with the proposed Disco 4. It the Pets doing their own thing to please people, except they are finding out now that they most certainly can't please all of the people all of the time!

This is the mildest and most positive view about this issue... I think that PSB know very well that a majority of their fans own most remixes on Disco 4. Which is why they added one new remix, creating a reason for fans to buy Disco 4 after all...

Die-hard fans will always buy compilations of previously released material, regardless of whether or not there is anything new on the release. People will buy Disco 4 because this is the first time that any of these tracks have been officially compiled together. Why else would people have bought Alternative went it came out? (there was no exclusives on that release at all!)

Alternative was a far more appealing package.

Plus it was quite clear what it was about. Disco 4 is just a thrown together bunch of remixes. The only downside of Alternative was the title. Beside(s) would have been better.

But some of the tracks were not available on CD and some of the tracks wrer different versions.

This Disco 4 CD is a total rip off IMO

Totally agree with the unanimous decision that 'Disco 4' is a complete disappointment. Still, if you don't like it then don't buy it - simple as that. You can vent your frustration via the true reflection of poor CD sales. Let's just hope that the next compilation of sorts is a stonker! :(
