Dear Neil, Chris and the heads of Parlophone Records. We, undersigned fans, ask You to change the tracklist of the new album Disco 4 in favour of new tracks and mixes of Pet Shop Boys songs, or to change the name Disco 4 to something else, as it does not reflect the spirit of the set of Disco albums.

Even I am seriously considering not buying this. That'd be a first for me. It's fan fleecing at it's best (or worst!) and it is a huge disappointment. No-one else is going to buy it other than the hard core fans, many of whom have the mixes already (and I personally don't have time for mixes these days), so it's something of a let down to say the least.
It's like an artist with 1 album releases a Best of album. But this is way beyond the boys control whether or not this is released anyway, so i dont blame them (the record company) for squeezing hard earn money from us. No matter why people are downloading songs, to even the playing field.

Who knows what they're thinking about reading that almost all the fans are against their new album. Who will buy it if lot of fans will not buy it? Like "Don Juan" says "it would be a disaster"...

To the best of my recollection, everybody on this board was happy with Battleship Potemkin, Fundamental, Fundamentalism, Concrete, and Cubism. The fans on this forum seem to get excited (in a positive way) about virtually every release. Disco 4 is the first release in a very long time that has drawn any type of negative fan reaction.
The Pet Shop Boys are a commercial enterprise that exists to sell records to consumers (their fans). Why not produce a product that consumers want?

The best signal to give as a fan is NOT to buy it. I'm not going to buy Disco 4 shortly after its release and I hope for terrible chart result. Sooner or later, after 9 months or so, the album will be on sale for 5 euro. I will pick it up as a bargain, for collection purposes only.
Has the world gone mad? Why should they not release whatever the hell they want. As I see it, it ought to be an okay-ish release for everyone except hardcore fans.
I am not keen on Disco 4 but even I find this idea (asking to ban a release) risible. And pathetic.
I stay, stop staring at your own navels guys and move on. You can always look forward to the ballet to get your mind off Disco 4.

Even I agree, although I think Disco 4 is a crap idea; of course they have the right to release whatever they want, while we the fans have the right to moan endlessly and then buy the stuff or not buy it. Simple. As for the "spirit of Disco albums" I think PSB are the ones who decide whether something fits it or not...

Funny how things seem to be calming down a little - some of the comment on here has / is pathetically over the top what with petitions and such like.
They'll be setting up a protest camp outside Parlophone at this rate - a la the one at Heathrow!
