Should now be called "The Eastern-European song contest", they way the votes are rigged in favour of each other there is nothing short of scandalous.
I'd be all in favour of a seperate western and eastern contest because of this but like everything today it is not "politically correct".

I love the Father Ted episode where they are chosen to represent Ireland so Ireland can lose and therefore not have to host Eurovision yet again.

It has been statistically proven that the eastern european curruption theory is false. First of all, Serbia would have won last year, even if the points awarded by eastern european countries were deducted. Second of all, people vote for music they can associate with and there ARE cultural similarities here. Here in Denmark people GENUINELY always love the Swedish entry and we always think that Sweden will win the entire thing. That's because we love Swedish pop - it's as simple as that. Similarly people in eastern europe will tend to favour music with an "eastern" flavour, etc.

Sorry but there were some entries so bad that you know very well that it is clearly because of corruption.
The competition is even more crap now than it used to be, which says a lot.
And saying people from eastern europe prefer music with an eastern flavour only confirms what I believe about having seperate competitions.

That is true. If it wasn't, the same countries would win every year, which is really the opposite of how it's been in recent years. Even a country like Finland could win. I think the contest was far more "corrupt" in the 90's when there were still judges, and the "artistic" entries won - and Ireland won three times!! I wouldn't say any of those winners became that popular either.

My favourites are always those songs and performances I simply like most, regardless of the country. I generally like the Swedish entries most, on average, but if the song is nothing special (such as the one by The Ark...), I don't regard it as my favourite even though it's from Sweden. I've never really liked entries from Macedonia, for example, but if they send the best song this year, then of course I'll vote for it. But Denmark, Sweden, Malta and the UK are more likely to send in something I will truly like. DQ was great last year, I don't understand why people didn't vote for it.

Finland just chose its entry, a horrible heavy metal band. I can understand that the songs chosen are not always that brilliant, but why do people vote for complete shit?? Sometimes I wish I could change nationality. The average Finn has a horrible music taste nowadays.

Well, I liked "Cry baby" and "Flying the flag" regardless of what everybody else think of those songs. (The Finnish presenter mispronouced the latter one as "Flying the fag". )
