Can I respectfully ask : why does it seem ghastly crimes in the UK seem to be spiralling and making the papers every day? Do posters here who live in the UK feel this is something out of control? Or is it sensationalism from the papers?
I do read a few UK papers every day online. Daily Mail is a guilty favorite, even though they ran that exposè of me in my mom's bridal veil.
But seriously- some of the crimes and murders are pretty shocking, like that Goth girl being stomped to death. WTF? Hate to say it, but because guns are so prevalant in the US, it deters a lot of violence too, esp. of the drunken brawling variety that escalates. Fear of getting shot is drummed into you early in NYC, and the casual maulings and brutal beatdowns one reads of in Britain are sort of rare. Granted, there are hip-hop shootouts.
Lots.
But shooting someone isn't the same as kicking some Goth girl to death. That takes some ferociously antisocial malice there, some real effort. I'd rather be shot than be victim of some of the heinous crime stories coming out of the UK these days. Is that unfair to say? Don't mean it to be.

Well this incident occurred not far from where I live so when I read about their sentencing I posted it in case it wasn't actually real. Is it real? Am I actually posting now or have I slipped through the looking glass? The fact that somebody who has made something of his life is killed by a couple of worthless wannabe gangstas who've watched too many 50 Cent videos is sickening enough; the sentence is a bad joke.Deschanel wrote:Can I respectfully ask : why does it seem ghastly crimes in the UK seem to be spiralling and making the papers every day? Oh I disagree. Murdering scumbags who kill an innocent man in cold blood do for a start. Why do liberals have such a problem with the death penalty? These two jokers were caught bang to rights so there's no chance of executing the wrong people, the planet is overcrowded and the gene pool needs disinfecting.Niall wrote:No one 'deserves' death.

The sentence is a disgrace and the judge should be sacked at the very least for this. They will be out in less than 18 months which is incredible.
The UK is getting worse and worse and sentences like that do not help anybody. No doubt the family and lawyer of the scum who did this will be happy. They should all be chucked in prison to rot. Not too many of us would miss them.

I can't speak for other 'liberals' but I have a problem with anyone being killed. It is heinous regardless of who is doing the killing or who is being killed.Janet Street-Porter wrote:Oh I disagree. Evertonians are born not manufactured.
We do not choose; we are chosen.
Those who understand need no explanation.
Those that don't understand don't matter.

Not at all. These kind of animals are sub-human.Danny C wrote:You don't think it's somewhat illogical to kill another person for the crime of, er... killing another person?
The proportion of scumbags who undergo a Raskolnikovian epiphany is minimal, the planet is over-populated and a live hanging or two would entertain the proles for a few hours.

Agree with the death penalty. People like Ian Huntley, Rose West and Pete Sutcliffe do not deserve to breathe the same air as normal people.
Those bas*tards that stamped on that gothic girl because ''she was different'' should have been strung up. As should the smelly fcukers who plot to blow up innocent men, women and children.

What gives you, or anyone else, the right to make that kind of call? Why should anyone have the power of life or death over any other person like that?Undertaker wrote:Agree with the death penalty. I think the death penalty is rightly viewed as a crime against humanity in the most civilised countries of the world. When the state is permitted to murder its own citizens, you get onto very dodgy ideological ground, and it was a great day when we banned it in this country.

I will never understand why liberals are always so concerned with defending the 'human rights' of scum like this. In my book, if you hold a knife to an innocent man's throat and proceed to bash his brains in, you forfeit any 'human rights'. String the bastards up!!!!!Danny C wrote:What gives you, or anyone else, the right to make that kind of call? Why should anyone have the power of life or death over any other person like that?
