Abba is one of the select few acts that got better and better during their career. Infact the first couple of Abba albums are rather poor. They only got consistently great from Arrival and onwards and their final two albums are easily their best.

Worldwide, most of them were! ABBA Gold is No.1 again this week by the way.Radiophonic wrote:I love every track of Voulez Vous and every song could have been a single...
The five biggest-selling albums in UK history are as follows:
1. Queen - Greatest Hits, 1981 (5.4 million)
2. Beatles - Sgt. Pepper's Lonely Hearts Club Band, 1967 (4.8 million)
3. Oasis - (What's The Story) Morning Glory, 1995 (4.3 million)
4. ABBA - Gold: Greatest Hits, 1992 (4.2 million)
5. Dire Straits - Brothers In Arms, 1985 (4 million)
Pink Floyd, Queen (GHII), Jacko (twice) and Madonna make up the rest of the top ten.

Abba Gold will overtake Oasis, but will definitely not overtake Queen and The Beatles looks like a long shot as well.

From what I can gather, ABBA Gold may not even be ABBA Bronze if the info I have is correct and the album is currently the fifth longest running on the UK charts, with 366 weeks on chart, though they will certainly overtake Pink Floyd at No.4 in two weeks time.
Though ABBA still has some way to go to overtake the following:
1. Fleetwood Mac - Rumours, 1977 (478 weeks)
2. Meat Loaf - Bat Out Of Hell, 1978 (474 weeks)
3. Queen - Greatest Hits, 1981 (450 weeks)
4. Pink Floyd - Dark Side Of The Moon, 1973 (367 weeks)
But to put it in context, the only album released after ABBA Gold in the top 20 is Nirvana's Nevermind on 196 weeks. Jeez, I'm behaving like a right old Stats Freak!

UPDATE
According to this site:
http://www.chartstats.com/albuminfo.php?id=102
Gold actually overtook Pink Floyd a few weeks back, and stands at 372 weeks, so that means ABBA have both the fourth biggest selling AND the fourth longest-running album on the chart.

2 minutes of the sax version has been released on "Thank you for the music" and "Complete studio recordings" boxsets. And I guess you can hear a lot on YouTube...markus wrote:"Just Like That" is really good, the original that is. There's a leak on the net with very poor sound but you hear what a great melody it is.

Yeah, it's a pity "Just like that" never got released by ABBA. It's really a great song!Riikka wrote:2 minutes of the sax version has been released on "Thank you for the music" and "Complete studio recordings" boxsets. I especially love this "Na-na-na" version: http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=yFESUDEMJ4k
Also on Youtube you can find pieces of other unfinished tracks, and it's very interesting to hear how some of them later appeared in "Chess" or other Bjorn & Benny works.

I saw mamma mia on the flight recently and though meryl streep over-hyper dramatic act was a bit distracting, it was quite an enjoyable romp nevertheless and some of the songs do leave you a little misty, esp The winner and slipping through the fingers. Such an amazing catalog of songs they have !

Not to mention the No.1 hit I Know Him So Well by Elaine Potato & Barbara Dicko. Even Whitney Houston destroyed, I mean, covered it.Vince wrote:I read about Chess! I didnt know Murray Head's One night at bangkok was from it and written by Tim Rice andthe 2 abba members!
