Well, I personally am not a fan and it seems sure you arent so to save a new topic with numerous pages and "facts" lets just say NO! Lets not forget that the Spice Girls won it previously so anythings possible.Loins Of London wrote:Erm, at a guess I'd say exactly the same way Bob Geldof and U2 did.JSDOUVRES wrote: They are Irish, How could they qualify to get a Brit?

Got to be careful what you read over at Erasure Towers. It's like a venture into the neverworlds.skyhigh wrote:bottom line is they don't deserve one now or ever and nothing that anyone has said has changed my mind about that fact. Reason i started this thread was cos i read an erasure forum that someone linked to and they were all sayin that erasure should get one. No way!
*Someone* on there once said that in 30 years time, Clarke and Bell would be remembered for their songwriting as much as Lennon and McCartney are now

The difference is, there's not one single original Westlife track I've ever had the misfortune of liking, but I still think it's possible in a few years time, that they will get the Brits honour due to their chart record, so to say no, sorry I mean 'NO!' would be to essentially just put your head in the sand, although I'm all for protesting at the time.JSDOUVRES wrote: Well, I personally am not a fan and it seems sure you arent so to save a new topic with numerous pages and "facts" lets just say NO!
But you're so blinded by your uncritical love of Erasure, a superior group to Westlife in every way, with the exception of Andy Bell in a vocal and visual sense, that you can't see how remote the chances of them bagging the award are. You've got your hopes well and truly raised because PSB are being feted next year.
As I said from the very first day this subject came up, the only way it will happen is part of some Vince Clarke super-deal involving Yazoo, Alison Moyet and probably Depeche Mode as well.

Honestly, neither would Tennant and Lowe. But we can hope!Undertaker wrote: *Someone* on there once said that in 30 years time, Clarke and Bell would be remembered for their songwriting as much as Lennon and McCartney are now

Uncritical love for Erasure? Since when have I said that? Just because I think they deserve an award does not mean I love everything they have done! Is that how you are with the PSB?Loins Of London wrote:The difference is, there's not one single original Westlife track I've ever had the misfortune of liking, but I still think it's possible in a few years time, that they will get the Brits honour due to their chart record, so to say no, sorry I mean 'NO!' would be to essentially just put your head in the sand, although I'm all for protesting at the time.JSDOUVRES wrote: Well, I personally am not a fan and it seems sure you arent so to save a new topic with numerous pages and "facts" lets just say NO!

One quick glance at my posting history would answer that question for you, but then I guess you already knew that.JSDOUVRES wrote:Is that how you are with the PSB?
But then I wouldn't expect someone like you to understand. 'Twas only yesterday I was being incorrectly tagged as a huge Madonna fan just because I casually mentioned that the woman who dumped Erasure from her Maverick label preferred the PSB remix of her Sorry song and used it on her tour.
PSB are not even my favourite musical act, but that doesn't stop my believing their Brits honour is well deserved and that any subsequent potential olive branch to Erasure without other Clarke acts in on the act wouldn't be. Next...
PS: I've just bagged my tickets today to see the reformed Ultravox next year. I'd say they'd be a possible contender in 2010, especially as Midge Ure was involved in Band Aid/Live Aid.

That's a good shout. Midge was as big a mover behind the whole Live Aid thing, but he stayed very much in the background while Bob Geldof got the headlines, the plaudits and the knighthood.Loins Of London wrote:PS: I've just bagged my tickets today to see the reformed Ultravox next year. Loins, I agree with you on Ultravox so let's call it quits there!
The fact is that PSB are very deserving of this award, and IMO so would erasure be but we all have different tastes so let's not go on another 6 pages about something we disagree on.
I will say one last thing though and that is that when I was first really into music, two of the very first cd's I got were PSB's Behaviour and Chorus from Erasure, To be fair the follow ups of Very and I say I say I say were not too bad either but for me both groups have never produced such class again! Sorry if you disagree!

Erasure have gone backwards since then while PSB have improved like a fine wine. Neil Tennant was writing movie soundtracks and musicals while Andy Bell was getting knobrot from a rentboy. Nuff said.

Not too sure about that, they have both gone the same way as far as I am concerned, don't get me wrong I still like most of what they do but not like before.Danny C wrote:Erasure have gone backwards since then while PSB have improved like a fine wine. I could see Midge Ure getting the award, but Ultravox seem somewhat unlikely to me.
I saw him do an acoustic set when his book came out, it was very good.

I would strongly disagree with that. Whilst Erasure's 2007 varietal had a down year, they tend to have more of an up and down type latter half career, whereas I seriously think PSB have diminished consistently. I still like them, though.Danny C wrote:Erasure have gone backwards since then while PSB have improved like a fine wine.
As for 50 years plus, yes, I do believe many of Erasure's songs will be remembered far more dearly because of their solid foundation of melodic structure. It's the bottom line, and no amount of spin, marketing, presumed-coolness or lack thereof, label budgets, producer-names, club/dance ties, or polish can ever take away from that. Erasure are still, out of these two bands, far and away better melodic pop songwriters. They aren't even in the same category when it comes to that. Erasure are simply about songwriting. Interestingly, Madonna signed Erasure based on this. They were dumped, not because of her dislike of the Loveboat album, but for the financial toils Maverick was facing (and eventually succumbed to).
Many people on here liked PSB's latest album. I didn't. I didn't like "Minimal" - speaking out the letters in the song in a droning way for the chorus is not my thing. And I didn't like many other songs on it. Even "Integral"'s shelf life was shorter than a cracked egg on a hot day. "Luna Park" I liked a lot. I am presuming that this next album will be far better. I also felt Erasure's latest offering was their weakest ever, but I'm excited, from what Vince is saying about the forthcoming studio project, that the next one will be better.

Are you being serious here, or is it sponsored bullsh*t?
If you go to johnny average in the street and tell them to name a line from an Erasure song, or hum a melody, i'd put a large wager that they would sing something from that abba -Esque tripe, or do any impression of a wally and sing ''ooohhhh sometimes.'' Hardly Bernie Taupin is it!.
