Fawlty Towers star Andrew Sachs is being lined up to join the cast of Coronation Street.

The actor, who has been in the headlines recently over the Jonathan Ross and Russell Brand prank call scandal, is in talks to appear in the ITV soap next year.

The Daily Mirror reports that Sachs will play the brother of busy-body Norris Cole, who works alongside Rita in The Kabin.

A Coronation Street spokesperson said: "We first started working on a possible character for Andrew Sachs six months ago after learning that he was interested in joining the show.

“This was brought to our attention by Malcolm Hebden who plays Norris Cole. We have been in discussions with Andrew about the proposed storyline which would be seen on screen some time next year."

Andrew Sachs recently revived the Fawlty Towers character Manuel at a birthday celebration for Prince Charles. His most recent high-profile TV acting role was playing a paedophile in The Bill.

Do you think Andrew Sachs will be a good addition to the Corrie cast? Let us know what you think...

Hmm, Manuel was one of TV's greatest comic creations, but are they really expecting us to believe this casting has been in the pipeline for six months? :shhh:

only as much as we're supposed to believe that the re-scheduling of a certain synth duos 'hits' album has nothing to do with the timing of an award given to their old rivals .
Still waiting to hear the Adam Freeland, Manhattan Clique and Axwell mixes of Integral.
