Ever since the operation my knee has been dressed daily because it is still leaking fluid. Today when they changed the dressing it was almost dry and I was beginning to think it was nearly fully healed. Tonight I look at the dressing for the first time in 12 hours and the dressing is saturated and the plastic 'op site' covering has collected a lot of fluid that the dressing could no longer absorb. It's about my luck, I think things are going well then things go wrong again. I am now worried about whether it will heal up at all, especially given that it has now been three weeks since they did the operation and it was far from a big incision to have to heal. God knows what happens then, but I am sure it won't be good.
I'm trying to keep my spirits up, but it is getting harder and harder. I'm now feeling more like it might be a very unhappy new year for me.

Hope everything goes ok for you mate! Lets hope 2009 is better for both of us! Good Luck.
I'm an athiest too Steve but I do find that if you do good, it comes back to you. You have done so much good for so many people with this discussion board. I hope it comes back to you.
Fingers crossed for you.
BTW, give arnica a go. Great for healing. You can take it orally or rub it on to wounds. I took it after two operations recently and it really helped.
StevePSB wrote:I had a replacement titanium knee prosthesis put in in 1997 due to bone cancer. We're not talking about one of those little plastic things that they put in for arthiritis either, it replaces probably 50% of the bone either side of my knee. I'm just so annoyed that things have gone so horribly wrong this last 6 months after being relatively problem free since 1997.

Oh wow, that is a lot to deal with and since 1997 having this issue! And I thought I was dealing with issues with my left arm and shoulder for years, your problem makes mine seem so minor. Well hopefully 2009 will prove to be a better year for you and your health!
And the irony is that this morning the dressing was dry. It's been good one day and bad the next for the last 6 days, so in theory I am due a bad day again today. If it stays behaved today then I might start to get a bit more optimistic.
Spoke too soon. Another big leak half an hour ago after a day and a half of no problems and finally thinking things were heading in the right direction.
Can't see this sorting itself out before I have to see them in outpatients next Tuesday and I am preparing myself for the almost certainty of being re-admitted, whilst at the same time am very worried still as I don't know what more they can do if I go back in without them having to think about taking the prosthesis out. God knows I don't want that to happen, but I'm really beginning to think it's the only thing left for them to do.
Thanks to everyone for all the nice messages of support both here and via PM. They mean a lot to me.
I hope you find doctors that can give you answers.
I mean what the hell, surely your not the only one who has this particular operation, they have to be able to tell you whats going on and why.
house would figure this out. too bad he's just a TV character
I think the idea was that I was discharged but that it would sort itself out. It seems as though it might be getting better, but it's doing it exceptionally slowly.
I intend to make sure I know what the score is tomorrow. I won't leave until I know what is going on and what is going to happen in the very near future. I need to know for many reasons - the frustration of not knowing what is happening, the fact I have to work and the fact that in the mean time I am on £70 per week all mean I need answers.
