I'm only reading this now, but of course I knew about the horrible fires in Australia. Big hug to Greg and all the other Australian friends on this forum. I know it's been a really hard time. How are things now? Are people who lost everything getting the help they need?
Also is there anyways we could help? Maybe the have a website set up for fundraising...

What surprised and frustrated me was folk up there seem to think it was all down to arsonists.
They only arrested one arsonist and he was known to be mentally unwell.
Folks don't seem to get that this was Global Warming.

I would like to know what ... northerners are all thinking.
Do you disagree ? Did 200+ people die for nothing ?

Britain's just had a cold snap - school's shut because of snow, public transport affected, etc. By that reasoning we must be experiencing Global Cooling....

No way, I can only hope science can elaborate something to delay the climate changes...it's scary. In Italy we're experiencing both "extreme" sides of the climate: up north snow and ice make it really hard for some people and down south you can't turn on the hair dryer without setting something on fire...
Of course the arsonist needs to be punished, but the main "fault" must be attributed to the climate...and there is very little we can do against mother nature...perhaps just learn to respect her a bit more...

Or maybe it's winter. I mean this in the friendliest possible way, but it was amusing to watch the UK freak out over the last heavy snowfall.

The warm Atlantic currents-the Gulf Stream- that flow up from the Carribbean, up the US East coast and shooting over to the UK and Ireland is the reason heavy snow has been a rarity there. But cold water flowing down from the melting Arctic is disrupting that current. Heavy snow in the UK doesn't disprove global warming, it tends towards confirming it.

If we lose the Gulf Stream, we'll be seeing lots of snow every winter. Think I'll stick with our damp, temperate climate, thanks - much as we whinge about the rain.

Some fires were clearly the work of arson, others were started by natural events (e.g. lightning), but everything was helped along by global warming.
