Re: A Pet Shop Chart Histoy
[quote="Minimalizm"]I may sound pedantic but as far as I remember, Go West hit number 9 in its first week, then jumped to number 2, causing me and my friends to salivate cause we were sure that it would nit number 1 next week and we would celebrate it in a club...alas, first Mr Vain, then a disgusting song called Boom Boom shake the boom or whatever crap name it had stopped it...that's one of the reasons why I heartily hate Mr Vain
I remember Chris interviewed a couple of weeks after reaching No 2 and he said "we should have called it Boom West" made me laff....
they can always take a joke however and incorporated Mr Vein into their set (i think within Its a sin")

This misspelling cracks me up every time I see it, it has such filthy connotations.user29 wrote: Mr Vein into their set (i think within Its a sin")

Re: A Pet Shop Chart Histoy
The increasing first week sales may be partly attributable to the huge evolution of Internet and the online retailers...nowadays all boys and girls over the world are drummed to death about the release dates of their favourite bands, and you can preorder it for months ahead, thus all pre-orders culminating at the high first week sales, particularly for bands with a large but rather static fan base like PSBXTZ1969 wrote:UK/First Week Sales:kimphilby wrote:I would love to see the stat for UK opening week sales of all studio albums.
17,038 'Nightlife' (#7-October 1999).
18,008 'Release' (#7-April 2002).
26,492 'Fundamental' (#5-May 2006).
30,000 'PopArt' (#30-November 2003).
I remember that I had to wait for three weeks to lay my hands on Nightlife (not that the all-soul-consuming wait was worth it)...
The question: Does the total sales of each album exceed that of preceding one? Did Fundamental sell better than Release or Nightlife in the long run? If yes, then we can definitely say PSB are gaining new fans or reclaiming the old ones....Otherwise it is a self-delusion.

Re: A Pet Shop Chart History
Did you put these stats together? Where exactly did you get them? Anyway, they're a fascinating read, thanks for providing them. I've never seen the actual sales figures for Australia before, so was pleasantly surprised to see they've had 4 platinum albums here. There are just a couple of mistakes with the Australian stats:Indostar wrote:Hey all!! I'am the creator of this topic on UKMIX. 1) Always on my mind got to #10, not #28. It spent about 9 months on the chart and despite only getting to #10 was # 35 in the end of year chart for 1988. See here
2) Ab Fab was #2 in Australia, not New Zealand. I think I can safely say Ab Fab was definitely not #2 in NZ. Any Kiwis want to confirm that?

Re: A Pet Shop Chart Histoy
Not according to the stats in this thread. For the UK, Nightlife has sold 130,000 to date while Fundamental has only sold 100,000 (there are no figures for Release). At a global level it has continued to be a gradual decline (if you believe the stats in this thread) despite overall better chart placings for Fundamental. I somehow expect Yes will ultimately follow this trend and sell slightly less than Fundamental, although I'd love to proved wrong on this.Minimalizm wrote:The question: Does the total sales of each album exceed that of preceding one? Re: A Pet Shop Chart History
I have a parallel taste with Australians; I love Always on my mind to death, I quite like Absolutely Fabulous, and I lOVE the last album of PINK
