I see your point, but aren't these the same people whose parents blame Thatcher for destroying industry and their jobs? Most chavs weren't even born when Thatcher was in power, and if they are all like Goody was, then probably don't even know who she was.

The American counterpart to "Chav" would be "Guido". At least in NY- though I regret that it stereotypes Italians, it's pretty close to the US equivalent of Chavs. It means flashy, blingy, but pretty low-class.

(But Italian-Americans are still sexier than pasty British Chavs. )
