King of Pop

#1 Post by Actually »

I have always been a fan of the "King of Pop" Michael Jackson and i am still devastated that he is no longer with us.
There have been alot of various reactions to his passing, some quite distasteful.
However everyone has their right of opinion & mine is that he was a pure genius in everything he put his mind to. Thriller has & always will be one of the greatest albums of all time....& to me HIStory is not too far behind.

R.I.P MJ

I think the term "king of pop" doesn't really describe him well, although if somebody earns such a title it would be him. I'd rather call him the king of entertaiment. His whole life was like a Hollywood blockbuster with all the drama and special effects one can think of.

yeah, like markus, I'm not sure he is the king of pop.he's beyond that. he defiently is in a league of superstar that rarely pops up from generation to generation.

beatles,elvis,john lennon,michael jackson etc.

I mean, mariah carey and madonna have also sold a zillion records and had succesful concert tours, but I wouldnt call them a superstar along the lines of the above.

but rather than make a mountain of a mole hill I'll vote yes

I always thought it was faintly ridiculous that Michael Jackson called himself the King Of Pop, but then he was always a sandwich short of a full buffet.

No more Jacko threads, please.

Ugh. "King of Pop" was the self-appointed designation that Jackson and his handlers forced every media outlet to use if they wanted access, pictures, interviews on the release of his album in 1991. MTV, Rolling Stone, hundreds of magazines- they had to call him "King of Pop" contractually, and in NYC the media folks-some I knew- just rolled their eyes and went with it. They had no choice. It was a meaningless marketing slogan, but for Jackson it was more like Napoleon crowning himself. Hearing people say it unironically today makes me cringe.
