Running
In December 2008 I was up to 440 pounds (not so good). At this point I've gotten down to 336, and today at the gym I really pushed it and, this is slightly epic, ran a 9:45 minute mile on the treadmill at 336 pounds. I didn't know that was possible? But I had gotten to where I ran for 5 minutes straight so I figured I would try for the mile and I made it. I don't mean to brag, I don't have all that high of self esteem half the time, but I'm quite impressed I did this. I'm thinking of recording it for youtube if I do it again because I have a feeling no one would believe it.

Re: Running
Also, unusually, I was not listening to PSB or any music of my own at the time. There was a dance mix of Dubstar on during some of it though. But PSB can really help me push it at the gym.

Re: Running
Nine minute miles is what a 'good' runner aims for so you are doing great! ... i love running and normally run about 3 to 4 times a week... if you are planning on running long-term get some decent running trainers otherwise you get prone to injury very quickly especially if outside. Treadmill running is alot easier than outside running by the way but is great for building up stamina for running longer distances. Currently I'm five months pregnant so not been running since before Xmas, but trying to get out walking with the dogs instead as the nights get lighter, can't wait until the summer when I'll be able to get running again and (hopefully) shed my post-pregnancy weight.
Keep it up FofF, the weight comes off quicker doing this form of exercise than any other and you will feel the benefits (alot more energy), good luck with achieving your target!

Re: Running
Running on a treadmill is nothing like running for real but well done!

Re: Running
Hey, thanks for all the nice comments everyone. I'm quite aware that a 9:45 mile on the treadmill is more like an 11 minute mile outside due to wind and having to pace yourself and propel yourself more. But the treadmill is much easier to time yourself and to keep on level ground. I'm going slow with the rest of the weight; it might be 2-3 years before I get down to my target weight of 225-235, but that's ok. Last time I lost a lot of weight in 2002-2003 I had to have a gallbladder operation, so trying to avoid fast weight loss complications this time.

Re: Running
Well done FirthofForth !
The advantage of running is that you don't need to compete with anyone else - you can just set your own targets as you have done. once you've achieved them then your'e a winner !
I used to compete (& win) regularly in the 80s & 90s - enjoy it much more now I just run for enjoyment.
Saying that, I feel over & broke my arm/elbow while out running a few years back. Too busy concentrating on the music on my headphones at the time to notice that my lace was undone. Silly sod. I remember exactly which song was playing at the time!
