Eh, Mascherano lets him go as he enters the box, this is when valencia topples.Lush wrote:If a defender starts holding an attacker outside the penalty area but continues holding him inside the penalty area, the referee shall award a penalty kick.
The text in bold quite accurately describes the foul commited by Mascherano.

Valencia is in the penalty box when he falls down due to a foul commited by Mascherano, so it's a penalty. The fact that Mascherano fails in his efforts to bring Valencia down outside the penalty area is of no significance.
Either way, I think those who criticize Webb for his decision, forget that he does not have the luxury of instant replay.

"Unprofessional? Us? Sir. Might I with due respect remind you that Mister Vandemar and myself burned down the City of Troy? We brought the Black Plague to Flanders. We have assassinated a dozen kings, five popes, half a hundred heroes and two accredited gods. Our last commission before this was the torturing to death of an entire monastery in sixteenth century Tuscany. We are utterly professional." - Mr Croup

Interesting to hear that a penalty can officially be given even though the shirt pulling started outside the box. It was a bit touch and go though but he shouldn't have been pulling him back in the first place so got what he deserved as far as I'm concerned. Certainly not clear to say he let go before entering the area anyway.

happy and sad at the result as i always like to see teams beating the old filth but it means after our shocking performance tonight that we drop to 11th. still think we will avoid the drop but our manager needs to find our strongest team and quickly. we had no injuries tonight for the first time in about 20 years and still got pumped by a scoreline that flattered us.

Celtic's defending is pure Keystone Kops. Mowbray's a decent man but that result will do for him. Shocking. Still at least the Huns can't win the treble now.

Any truth in the rumours that Man City are trying to sign United's prolific second-top scorer, Own Goal?

United are embarrassingly bad without Rooney. Without him this season, they'd have been scrapping it out with Liverpool for sixth place.

Robben's goal was worthy of winning any game, contrary to any of the other goings on.
