Yello

I don't recall Neil or Chris ever mentioning the Swiss band Yello as their influence, but, in one way or another, they have to be. After all, they invented acid house with their 1980 album Solid Pleasure and the single Bostich although they had done other similar songs even before that.

Nevertheless, are there any Yello fans here? I love them to bits, they're my second favourite band after the PSB. They're of course most know by their hits "Oh Yeah"and "The Race", but they've been active for nearly 30 years now and have a huge back catalogue of fantastically weird and up-beat music.

I'm desperately waiting for their new album, that should be out anytime... soon. This promo track "Distant Light" may give an idea what the new album might sound like.

Is the point of this thread to convert more people into appreciating Yello?

Apparently, according to Last.FM, Yello is my #17 band (PSB #8, by the way)...

Anyway, don't quite see how Yello would've influenced PSB, and I can see Yello's point claiming PSB were (or still are?) crap. Their music is a whole different scene, isn't it?
I think Yello was much more into experimenting with those dance beats and rhythms than PSB ever were (not considering the revolutionary Baby Doc versions of Single-Bilingual and Discoteca, of course)

Baby Doc is hardly a revolutionary, beyond the stellar empire mix aside his mixes were a mix of Tony De Vit and happy hardcore. As to Pet Shop Boys and experimentation it's true they have never really been overly ground breaking but I feel they have been influential in terms of house music in a small way.

The first 24 seconds of Lost Again should sound familiar - Neil & Chris borrowed from Yello for the West End girls intro - I asked them about this at a record signing and Neil said something like " yeah we used to really like them but no we didn't ......"
Chris stated he couldnt remember the actual track....yeah right!
The PSB's must love Yello as they played loads of Yello tracks prior to coming on stage on their 2nd tour (think it was the 2nd). Does anyone remember that?

Sorry to bring back an old thread, but I was going to start one cos I just heard their new record. In my shameful ignorance I thought they'd stopped making music, but I've always listened to classics like Drive/Driven and Call It Love. When I came across a new one on Youtube it was joyous! Man, how good is this track?

Only ever heard one song and thats obviously 'The Race.' When it first came out (must have been about 1988) i thought it was awesome. I heard it the other day and thought it was one of the worst records ever. It's appalling.
