I think iPads are going to do better than the sceptics think.

1. Good for the elderly with no OS and fiddly bits.
2. Good for the long term sick in bed people where laptop too big.
3. Not to mention the book and magazine reading market that could really take off.
For example commuters reading the newspapers in trains.

My advice is, wait for the 3G model unless you are house bound.

I'm sure they'll have their usefulness, but I still think they look like a bit of a fad.

Got myself one of these new fangled contraptions the other week there. got a great deal i think on o2. Free 3gs 16gb handset on a 24 month plan. £24.50 a month gets me 600 minutes, unlimited texts and unlimited internet. Wont ever use 600 minutes a month i dont think but its good to know i have them.

best apps so far are ebay, facebook and sky remote record. loving it. i am not a mac fan but the i-phone is so easy to use in every way.

You can sit at the computer and manage all your contacts and calendars in a Google account.
These are then synchronised (in both directions) with your iPhone.
And this is a free service.

You can also use it to sync your google email and for $25/year that is a PUSH email service.

That's pretty much makes the iPhone a compulsory purchase ! Has to be one of my favourite games on the last few years.

My advice is wait for the next generation when they've ironed out the glitches and put a camera in it.

Personally as a bit of a tech- geek I'm getting more and more annoyed by Apple's over-controlling attitude to everything related to their products. I hate the way everyone from app developers to users has to do everything Apple's way or bugger off. I understand why they do it and I knew I wouldn't like it when I got my iPhone but there really was very little choice back then. My next phone will be android based I think...

Can I ask iPhone users abroad: how would you rate your cellphone coverage with it? I mean, as a phone alone, is it satisfactory?

In the US, where AT&T has a monopoly, the iPhone is just dreadful and notorious for being terrible as a cellphone. You literally cannot have a conversation for more than 5 minutes before the signal is dropped, it is immensely frustrating to pay $80 a month for such shoddy service. I know, laugh at the fool, but the 3GS is superb in a lot of other ways, like GPS maps. There's rumors of a Verizon phone this year. AT&T is such a disaster- of all places and cities, New York and San Francisco has the worst coverage. Great going, AT&T, it's not like there's any media/tech companies in those backwaters! Ugh, they just take the money from 20 million people and can't be arsed to invest in infrastructure to improve their shoddy service, 2 years later.

o2 in the uk has fantastic coverage. rarely do i ever find im without a signal.
