UK switch to Double Summer Time

The Daylight Saving Bill 2010 is currently being debated. The proposal is to use the GMT+1 during winter, and GMT+2 during summer. This would bring us in line with Europe.

Personally, I am all for it, as I like the idea of light evenings, especially in the summer when sunset would be at 23:01 where I am. I feel it would encourage people to go out, and it would yield a higher tourist-spend. It would also align our trading-times with that of Europe.

The downside is that winter mornings would be darker, and some people say that would mean more accidents. However, the evenings would be light all year round, and the total number of accidents would be reduced, despite darker mornings.

I just wondered if anyone else had any thoughts or opinions on the subject?

No, we should leave it as it is!
I saw a program on it and there seemed to be more problems then advantages. Darker mornings arent good for people travelling to work and school...especially those that live in remote areas.
The evenings are light enough in summer anyway! People go out regardless of the amount of light..

Thinking about it, i'm not really keen. I like to play Golf early doors and also take the dogs out early. In the summer, it's light at 5 a.m and thats perfect.

I don't really see the point of it being sunny at 11 p.m but thats just my personal opinion. I suppose it's how you go about everyday routines.

I'm undecided. Try it for a couple of years, like they did in the 60's and see if it works.

Although the thought that it has already been tried and failed makes me think it wan't a good idea after all.
