Yes, we were quite united during the whole 2002-03 Iraq War buildup. And then the continuing unitedity to select Bush in 2004 for another 4 years. I agree, the US is very patriotic, but very idiotic as well. Look at how Wilson sold WWI. Yep, both left and right wing presidents have had their moments of shamery. Oh, and just so no one is confused, I hate the US and would like to get the hell out of here someday. I like the Scandinavian models, though they admittingly have a more uniform population, and aren't as cosmopolitan as I would like. There is so much zero tolerance in the US, I feel the need to get away from it every day. I don't care if you are for or against universal health care, but we can't have a reasonable debate about it? We can't look at systems in other countries? I have to be a horrid socialist? Also, from what I understand, the UK isn't much better, maybe a touch. But from what I read in the Economist you've got a lot of idiots over there as well.

Perhaps this mythical land of "Europe" is just a bit more pragmatic. Having realised decades earlier that the rest of the world existed and constantly trying to invade it might not be the best of ideas, its inhabitants learnt to struggle against adversity rather than try to crap on it?
