It's interesting to look through back issues of Literally, and read some of the names considered at the time of the album releases:

Discography was to be called Hit Music, and As It Were was also considered.

Names considered for Very were: Pet Shop Boys If You Will, Shall We?, There's Nothing Quite Like The Pet Shop Boys, Starkers, The Self-Confessed Pet Shop Boys, The So-Called Pet Shop Boys, Pet Shop Boys For Heaven's Sake, Relentless (which was used for the dance album, obviously) Carry On Pet Shop Boys, Plastic, and Pet Shop Boys Off The Record.

Other titles considered for Bilingual were: Tittle Tattle, Current, Pet Shop Boys Believe It Or Not, Pet Shop Boys Quite Frankly, Foreign, Pet Shop Boys Forever, Apparently, Metamorphosis, Semidetached Pet Shop Boys, Pet Shop Boys Au Contraire, Beyond, Pet Shop Boys Deliver, Pet Shop Boys (And Girls), The Awful Truth.

Drama, Synthesised, Up And Coming, Fallacy were considered for Nightlife.

Release: Whatever, From Outer Space, Lovely, Tragic, Transition, Subtext, You Can't Have One Without The Other, Girlfriend, Lovelife, Sometimes, Depth Through Surface, Touche, Distortion, Position, Whenever, The Death Of Disco, Narrative, Hinterland, Alias, Mainstream, Decision, London, Approximately, The Exception, Only, A Walk Across A Field, Never Anyone But You, Home, with the final two seriously considered, apparently.

For Fundamental, the only earlier titles considered are Fundamentally Pet Shop Boys and Pet Shop Boys Fundamentally, according to Literally #30.

And finally, here are some titles considered for Yes: Straightforward Pet Shop Boys, Hail Pet Shop Boys, Pet Shop Boys Deliver, Pet Shop Boys Etc, Pet Shop Boys TBC, And, Adventure, Vocation, Hybrid.

Phew. Can you see any titles there that were considered for more than one album..?

And the bigger question: why have I just taken the time to write that out, when it's a sunny day outside!

I think the bigger question is, why have they even so much as suggested multi-word titles? :o

I'm glad you did. Great info - thanks. I remember Home was considered for Release. I'd have been happy for And or Etc (although I'd prefer it as lower case ie etc) for Very.

My next suggestion - The Pet Shop Boys

How about a sneering political album called 'pet shop boys expectations'?
By the way, in the recent pet text Neil lets us know they have written 16 new songs so far and are going to record the new album in november for a release next year. It would have been nice to get their 11th album in 11 being called 11, wouldn't it?
