Transcendent Albums

#1 Post by York Minster »

Let's each name one album (or more) that is not only probably one of your favorites, but that is transcendent, that leaves the everyday life-world and becomes something deeply meaningful to you. I love Domino Dancing like no other, but it's not exactly "transcendent" if you get my drift.

Thomas Dolby - The Flat Earth (his masterwork, his "Behavior" that only took him one year after his "Science" success to pen)
And tryin' to figure out what happened to 'Germaine Propaine'
"He couldn't have fell off that hard" Ain't no way
"What happened to the way you was rappin' when you was scandalous
That Canibus turned into a television evangelist"
Plus he raps with his regular voice [BOOSH! BOOSH!]
[BOOSH! BOOSH!] (What was that?) Pet Shop Boys

By "transcendent", all i can think of are Enigma albums. The ones with Sadeness, and Return to Innocence.

I don't think Enigma ever really sounded like Sade

The single was actually entitled "Sadeness part 1". Only for the UK release did they change it to "Sadness part 1".

Five quickly whittled down non-PSB choices for me:
Karma, by Delerium
Chorus, by Erasure
1 Giant Leap, by 1 Giant Leap
The Understanding, by Röyksopp
The Skywatchers Handbook, by Skywatchers *

* which is utterly the best album of the last five years, bar none
