I thought that OMD album was rather good.

It's brilliant. I like it. If all songs would be like this... too much crap playing today at radios. Good music must return!

Currently sitting at no. 9 in the UK midweek album chart. A top ten placing for an old 80s synth band. See it can be done.
Edit: Ended up at no. 21.

I've not actually heard the album yet. Sort of messed up ordering it.
Hopefully by the end of the week.

Re: It's Brilliant!
I have a soft spot for many of their Eighties albums and I even went to see them live in 2010, but this new one is a very drab and stodgy affair. The opening trio is alright in a very pastiche sort of way, but after that the rest of the album really plods. Stodgy songs with dated production and horrible guitar solos.

The title track has really grown on me, it's Ultravox through and through. Still think the vocals are too weak though. The album after a few listens is good, but there is little cohesion or path to it. It's very up and down. I have no problems with guitars though, so even though they're very prominent, I don't mind. I don't think a 1984 synth lead sound could work in 2012, although the bits of ARP Odyssey are very welcome when they pop up.
Seeing them live again in Birmingham this year. Can't wait!

Tell me a hit song by this band. Never heard of them aside from their name.

I'd love to get this boxset if I knew more of Ultravox's work. Even if its just 3 or 4 songs that I like, that's how it started with Pet Shop Boys for me. I believe it was hearing Always on my mind on Jeremy Vine's R2 show, Miracles on the radio, West End girls on Only Fools and Horses, and Go West on The Hits (former Freeview music channel now known as 4Music).
Ultravox I only know Vienna and I'm not sure if I'll like the rest of their stuff. Investing in this boxset now might be a good plan seeing as it could shoot up in price before you know it.

Re: It's Brilliant!
Nice box set, but I have them on the remasters from a few years ago.
If you like the few tracks you've already heard then I suspect you'll like their other stuff too. The 1986 'UVOX' album is weak, the rest is (IMHO) either very good or great. Have a sniff around YouTube at some of their other stuff see what you think.

Oh, if you go pre 1980 you'll get into the John Foxx era Ultravox and the music will not be what is on the box set. Also, if you go further than 1986 (Brilliant aside) you'll end up in the various line up Ultravox era, and again, it won't be what is in this box set.
