Justice done for the greatest program ever made. How on earth can Only Fools and Horses have outstayed it's welcome by a decade? A few years ago, they got a staggering 27 million viewers on Christmas day. That's half the country! It's far superior to anything else. Fair enough, it's not as good as it was, but that would be the same for anything thats untouchable.

Vicar of Dibley isn't really that funny, surprised that was so high. Blackadder was only average too.

Fawlty Towers was alright but seriously lacked idea's, which is why it only lasted a handful of shows.

It was difficult to suggest who should be 2nd, 3rd etc. Only Fools and Horses is in a league of it's own, the rest are alright but are as good (or bad) as each other.

Fawlty Towers is peerless.

Only Fools and Horses lasted so long because there was so many different characters. It could never get boring. The last couple were not as good but to keep up the level of consistency was impossible.

The 1st series was arguably the worst. It almost got scrapped. The chandelier episode in the 2nd series was what made it the program it was. Even when they were deadly serious, the death of grandad and Rodney losing his baby, it was still awesome viewing.

Difficult to pick out a favourite but the Chandelier episode was superb, along with the diamond smuggling from Amsterdam. The gold Del was left that was buried at sea. The glider episode where Rodney set del up. Where they became millionaires (27 million viewers) and not forgetting the blow up dolls !!

Sorry big boy, Farty Towels wasn't bad but it was way out it's depth when it came up against OFAH. Saying that, it's better than Dibley and Black adder

There was one in which they are in a nuclear shelter and it is very moving.

A lot of those early ones - before Grandad dies - were a lot darker than the later ones and I prefer my comedy to have a dark side.

But it lost its way in the 90s, relying on the odd set-piece gag.

The ridiculous trip to Miami and of course, the Trotters becoming millionaires briefly, meant it lost its' social realism and degenerated into an inflated Christmas wankfest, full of self-congratulatory pomp.

There were only twelve episodes made of the greatest sitcom ever.

Was Some Mothers Do Ave Em in the top 10? Sometimes too stupid to laugh at, but IMO, better than Dibley etc.

The trouble with that whole contest was results being badly skewed by the kind of people likely to bother voting. Geered as it was to text messaging and telephone voting, the 'younger' audience reigned supreme. That is why the later sitcoms won presidence, and why such classics as Hancock, Steptoe, Fawlty and Dads Army entered so low.

Some Mothers made number 22, also surprised that the office and Royle family only made no 24 and 19 respectively. I was glad that Only Fools won, dissapointed that One Foot in the Grave only made no 10 and stunned that Dibley did so well. It's funny but not that good!

I still am in shock at seeing the likes of the f8cking Strippar Of Sickley do so well. The 'great' British public have finally lost the plot. I could almost cry, but then I've been in town drinking double G&Ts with a friend since 4pm and feeling a little emotional.

Being a journalist, I'll take more notice of polls such as Time Out and the BFI who asked journos, writers, actors and people from within the industry and the result was that Fawlty Towers was not only voted the greatest ever sitcom, but it was voted the greatest ever British PROGRAMME. I rest my case.

Glad you rest your case because 1.5 million people voted Del Boy an easy winner and Fawlty Towers in a lowly 5th positon

Get use to it, Only Fools and horses was always going to win because the amount of viewers it gets pisses all over the rest put together.

One Foot in the Grave should have easily been 2nd. It's the only other comedy along with OFAH that is just as funny when watching a repeat.

Dibley probably came in high because a women is actually the leading role. Not many comedies are like that.

Not only is OFAH officially the best sit com of all time, FACT!!
David Jason is the greatest actor of all time.

But it's a very close call with 1 & 2 but just go with Steptoe and Son reason for that could be because i thought the xmas special of Only Fools And Horses was a really big let down this time
