Eddie the Eagle - Original Soundtrack

#1 Post by canveyboy »

Hi all,

If you love 80s music then you'll love the soundtrack to the new film about Eddie the Eagle, Britain's entrant to the 1988 Winter Olympics ski jump category. The film is called 'Eddie the Eagle' and features classic British 80s bands performing brand new original songs in a classic 80s style typical of each artist at the time. The whole project was curated by Gary Barlow. All of the songs were written by the artists involved with Gary Barlow advising and overseeing production. The songs are all absolutely amazing, they all sound like 80s classics! Which I guess was the idea. I'm sure if these songs had actually been released in the 80s that most of them would have been huge top 10 hits! I couldn't recommend this more!

1. Holly Johnson , “Ascension”
2. Howard Jones , “Eagle Will Fly Again”
3. Marc Almond, “Out of the Sky”
4. Tony Hadley, “Moment”
5. Midge Ure, “‘Touching Hearts and Skies”
6. Nik Kershaw, “The Sky’s the Limit”
7. ABC, “Living Inside My Heart”
8. Kim Wilde, “Without Your Love”
9. Andy Bell, “Fly”
10. Go West, “Determination”
11. Heaven 17 , “Pray”
12. Paul Young, “People Like You”
13. Taron Egerton and Hugh Jackman, “Thrill Me”

The Holly Johnson track is brilliant, the OMD track isn't bad either.

They really don't sound that 80s at all, and a lot of the tracks don't suit the style that the artist had in the 80s. I also offer the opinion that some of the lyrics are trite and show that he is not the best songwriter. I was 17 in 1980, and so subscribed to and lived in the fashions and trends of the time. This soundtrack would have been very out of place back then. It sounds more 90s than anything, as some of the sounds and rhythms hadn't been adopted or created back then. I am now dreading seeing the film as the nostalgic effect will be lost.

Love the soundtrack. Have listened to it quite a bit over the last few days. I will always consider many of these artists classic voices for my generation.
