Make no mistake: Erasure were a genuinely great pop band, responsible for a glorious run of singles that, give or take a few understandable duds, ran well into this century. Besides their old classics, I have a soft spot for their down-the-dumper singles too, like Fingers and Thumbs, I Love Saturday, Stay With Me, Don't Say Your Love Is Killing Me, I Could Fall In Love With You, and In My Arms. But this is effluent by comparison.

The Depeche Mode return, no great shakes itself, is in a different league to this.

I don't know what happened to Erasure, but they lost their way dramatically in the mid 1990s and fell away badly. Quality control collapsed. Their brilliance still shone through now and again, but it's hard to believe that this is the same band that created such a consistent run of fantastic singles in the 1980s and early 1990s. I know there is an argument that all bands experience some kind of fall off, but few falls from grace have been quite an ungainly as Erasure's. It's as if Andy, the pop sprite, fell off his tree and, in doing so, ripped the seat of his leotard right open in the process. But then, he never really had a seat of his leotard in the first place, did he...

As for Vince, he's phoning it in now. A pale shadow of the playful tunesmith he used to be.

Love the new single, played it in the car and it sounded fab! Fine, there are those here that wn't like it (hey, musical tastes are subjective aren't they?) and of course the same old rubbish is being spouted here as always (has there been a release the last 20 years when it hasn't?), Fine, they are past their peak perhaps (just like PSB) but to constantly compare their new stuff to their old stuff is both misleading and irrelevant just as it is to do the same thing with PSB. We all know that a number of fans here are totally biased against Erasure for some reason (this is a PSB forum) but it is a shame that there are some that find it impossible to have any kind of neutral view on them, sad even. I do wonder if the same people look at PSB the same way because if they do they can't be too impressed with their releases post Very.

There have been some great releases from both bands since their last big hits and some not so great too (subjective of course), as a big fan and collector of both I personally do not see much difference between either, I am just incredibly happy they both continue to release brilliant records and that both tour extensively, I will be seeing both bands at least twice each this year which is fantastic and I am incredibly grateful! The past is the past, let's move on and enjoy the music without focussing on some kind of pretencious comparison competition which some seem obsessed with for some bizarre reason?

Well ive taken the piss just to be a knob. I'll admit to that but if something is good, i'll say so. I've also admitted to not really given Erasure a chance of late but patience wears thin and when you get older, in my case, i just cant be arsed unless i'm hooked straight away. Anyway, i cant be bothered to laugh at something just for the sake of it anymore. Unfortunately though, this song is garbage. Maybe its unrealistic waiting for another Blue Savannah but this isnt even close to the worst track on Pop! I've no idea what they are trying to do. Loads of ideas and directions theyve tried to go in and they have become lost. It seems like Erasure is just Andy Bell now with Vince making a few guest appearances to appease the fans and Andy.

This is nowhere near good enough for a lead song. They should be miles better than this.

Let's not forget that singles don't do anything in the singles chart nowadays so not the end of the world at the end of the day. A few plays here and there on radio 2 or whatever aren't going to make much difference either really are they? Like I mentioned everytime Erasure release a new album the same old trolls come out for a good old slag off and it is just sad. If there are people that don't like Erasure (which is clearly the case here) then ignore them and move on. I could post everyday about songs and artists I hate and personally find crap (all subjective of course) but what is the point? Boring!

I like drumming introduction and verses' sound, and it reminds me "More than a dream" a bit.
I don't like chorus - it doesn't develop over the verse and barely recognizable.
I don't like uninspiring and lethargic voice of Andy on that track. He could be energetic and brisk as Andy usually delivers.
I don't like song's lyrics. No words needed to express its utter insipidity.

Quite sad to hear that as new lead Erasure single. Well, they made a poor choices once on "Light at the End of the World" (only "When a Lover Leaves You" was a good pick), maybe it's just another time.

I agree that all those songs you mention are good, and some of them even great. The new single is indeed really weak, but honestly I don't expect Erasure of today to release any great stuff... What has happened?
