Pet Shop Boys like music . . . that is not the Pet Shop Boys - Looking for advice
I'm after a little more music that's similarish to the PSB but not them. Just to broaden my horizons and something new . . . or old that's new to me is always good. So if anyone has any advice that'd be nice.
Thanks in advance.
1. We all know of Depache Mode, would their singles 81-85 be their best bet to get as a 1st album of theirs or would there be a better album to get. I can't say I like their newer stuff as after Wilder left. I do like a lot of their earlier stuff though but I'll leave it up to you all to recommend me something.
2. I've read that Eurasure has a new album out. But many of their albums are part good and part not good so I think a greatest hits might be the best but again I'll leave it up to you to make a suggestion there.
3. New Order are not exactly like the PSB but I do like some fo their stuff so they are an option too I guess.
Are there any other artists that have the same PSB vibe out there I should be looking into.
Thanks in advance.

Not necessarily recent, but worth checking out...
- Electronic
- Boxcar
- Kon Kan
- OMD
- Spray
- Empire State Human
- Cicero
- The Other Two
- Yazoo
- Alpinestars
- Fischerspooner
- Bobby O
- Ganymede
- Paul Hardcastle
- Human League
- Beatfish
- Fr/action
- Sweep
- Carter USM (pre-1993)
- Remixes of other artists done by Phil Harding
- Remixes of other artists done by Shep Pettibone
On a related note, there are a whole stack of multi-disc CD compilations of 80's 12" mixes knocking about at the moment for a good price on eBay... particularly noteworthy are the "12 Inch Dance" and "Twelve Inch Eighties" series. The best of each is:
- https://www.discogs.com/Various-12-Inch ... e/10011843
- https://www.discogs.com/Various-Twelve- ... se/8304299
Retro. (is wondering what the plural of series is, but is too lazy to look it up)

A band called mirrors - album is called lights and offerings.
Hurts, particularly the first album.
New (and old) blancmange stuff - particularly blanc burn and mange tout
Saint etienne - new album is good, but start with foxbase alpha or words and music
Frankmusik - album complete me
Avoid the new erasure album - start with the innocents, chorus, the circus or wild.

Just for the sake of it, make sure you're always frowning.
It shows the world that you've got substance and depth.

Greetings,
Retro.
I don't think so. The "12 Inch Dance" and "Twelve Inch Eighties" series are on different labels, and clearly draw from different back catalogues. The "Twelve Inch Eighties" series draws upon a more narrow and limited set of artists. The "12 Inch Dance" series is more diverse, and overall is slightly better... but at the price they go for on eBay, I just get them all!

Depending on what you like about PSB, these may or may not sound similar:
The Radio Dept. - "Pet Grief", "Clinging to a Scheme", "Running out of Love"
Piano Magic – "Disaffected" (probably closer to New Order)
Tame Impala – "Currents"
Saint Etienne has been mentioned already. I'd say "Sound of Water" is their Behaviour.

Thank you for your suggestions everyone. I will give a little feedback on which of your sugestions I liked. I'll just list what I liked.
Client albums - very good but just not my thing.
English Electric - I loved that, I am so getting it. - Though just saying History of Modern was not my thing but I'll give it another chance. Just so you know which of their albums I like so you can judge my tastes in music.
Universal - Also by OMD. Loved it, totally getting it.
History of Modern - not really my thing
Pinishment of Luxury - Also by OMD. Really liked what I have heard of it so far. Will look into it once it releases.
FFS - very original and different. I do like Franz Ferdinand's music generally and this is quite good. I'll look into it more.
Happiness - I will listen to that more to see if I like it enough to buy it. I do like what I hear here though.
Words and Music - I really liked that. I'll see if it grows on me.
Pet Grief - I like it somewhat, will listen to it more to see if it grows on me.
Clinging to a Scheme - I do actually like this more than I thought I would. One day I'll get it
Runnong Out of Love - Not my thing, just saying so you get a comparision to understand my tastes better. But I think this album needs time to see if it can grow on me.
@retrofuturist
Thanks for your list. I'll slowly go through it when I have time. Though I do know some of the artists there liek Human League which I do like. Also I am a fan of Phil and Shep's work. If I see anything remixed by them I make the effort to check it out. When I've gone through it I'll get reply back here.
Thanks everyone.
I've never heard of OMD before.tottenhammattspurs wrote: Mon 05 Jun 2017, 10:48 pm Client. 3 albums. All bloody good

Really liked their first two albums, but what I've heard so far from their new one just doesn't seem to grab me. I have a long drive tomorrow and have downloaded their new one to give it a proper go.tottenhammattspurs wrote: Thu 06 Jul 2017, 10:41 am Try the other PSB...Public Service Broadcasting.
