your charts

#1 Post by andmaste »

Well, how many of you have your personal weekly music charts?
Me, I'm doing my own TOP 15 Single chart and TOP Album chart since 1987, and many times I take a look at what song I liked the most in a certain period of my life.
What was my #1 when I turned 18? And when I asked my wife to marry me? And when my son was born? Etc...
For my own sake... obviously.
And then I make the annual and global charts and statistics.

How many of you do the same?

Ray: obviously you are one of us..

I used to do a weekly, personal top ten chart for a few years. Typically, though, I got bored and gave it up around the end of 1994.

I have to agree though, they are interesting things to look back on a few years down the line.

never done it

how do y'all do it?

do you rate it accordign to what you buy and listen to?

or what you like on the radio?

do old songs creep into the chart? lile say you listened to an old PSB CD that week

sounds interesting though
In the silence of your room
In the darkness of your dreams
You must only think of me
There can be no in between
When your pride is on the floor
I'll make you beg for more

I used to do it back in the 80's, but I can't seem to find the time these days. There's a regular poster at Dotmusic who's been making a personal chart since the seventies. Quite amazing.
"Unprofessional? Us? Sir. Might I with due respect remind you that Mister Vandemar and myself burned down the City of Troy? We brought the Black Plague to Flanders. We have assassinated a dozen kings, five popes, half a hundred heroes and two accredited gods. Our last commission before this was the torturing to death of an entire monastery in sixteenth century Tuscany. We are utterly professional." - Mr Croup

My personal charts are only about new releases.
So, if I listen to an old single and/or album, it can't chart anymore, unless it's a brand new re-issue.

I've had a chart since 1991; it started as a top 15, then became top 20 and quickly top 30. It has continued like that till last year when I almost dropped it altogether due to the fact chart music became so crap it was a pain in the ass to have to dig for anything worth hearing (and charting). Currently it's a top 20 and this week's top 10 is quite PSB influenced :)

1 1 3 FLAMBOYANT
Pet Shop Boys
2 2 3 TAKE YOUR MAMA
Scissor Sisters
3 6 8 COMFORTABLY NUMB
Scissor Sisters
4 3 3 IF I CAN'T HAVE YOU
Alicia Keys
5 5 4 A LITTLE BIT OF PAIN
Vanessa Daou
6 8 2 BLACK CHERRY (SINGLE MIX)
Goldfrapp
7 4 6 HOME
Zero 7
8 7 15 MIRACLES
Pet Shop Boys
9 ! 1 TAKEN IT ALL
Zoot Woman
10 ! 1 IF I THOUGHT YOU'D EVER CHANGE YOUR MIND

I have done a top 20 every week since august 1990. I allow myself to chart everything except songs that I've been personally involved with. I hardly ever chart old songs I've known for years - it would have to be a very special occasion for that to happen. From time to time I do chart old songs that I didn't previously know or that I've only known vaguely.

I do my chart on sundays. Come sunday I might post my top 20 in this thread, who knows?

I used to do my personal top 20's during the period of 1993-2002...Also thought of doing my all time PSB Top when celebrating my 10 year fanship in 2001...But I'm too lazy
Chris Heath: Why you're surfing?
Chris Lowe: Coz we can!
Neil Tennant: Exactly. :D

I collect miniature racecars, does that also count? Many people would say it's as dorky as making your personal Top 20 every week for 15years on...

I have done a Top Forty (monthly) since January 1984  (I've mentioned it here before). This is Chart number 289 up to January 2008
I can't be arsed to write it all here, but my current Top 10 is:-

N.B (M) = Total months at number one e.g 47M (47 months at number 1) these months do not have to be consecutive.

1 (1) Numb (8M)
2 (3) I Made My Excuses & Left
3 (2) DJ Culture (47M)
4 (4) After All (8M)
5 (7) Being Boring (2M)
6 (6) Rent (19M)
7 (5) West End Girls (2M)
8 (8) Always On My Mind (2M)
9 (9) Young Offender
10 (10) It Couldn't Happen Here

Being Boring is longest serving record at number 2 with 30 months when it was stuck behind DJ Culture.

Can't get rid of 'cool' should be 8

Nearly gave up a couple of times in the mid 90's but will always carry on...it's good history. I call it 'The chart that doesn't count'

I have had non-PSB stuff in it from time to time. The likes of A-Ha, Yello, Berlin, Climie Fisher & strange things like The Floral Dance

Now go ahead take the piss :hand:
Attitudes are materialistic
