One if the best pop songs ever written, honestly. Would love to hear it live!
I sincerely *love* Disco 2 and listen to it straight through regularly.

I remember at the time, most of my friends at school thought it was a Pet Shop Boys single. In the end I gave up correcting them.

No it's an Electronic track but its arguably got more PSB DNA than Sumner/Marr's.

Conversely I'd suggest Getting Away With It has more of New Order vibe. I dont especially feel that the vocal turns on both records make it that way. It more to do with the music and lyric.

After Discography finished with "Was It Worth It" things felt risky, with Neil singing about moving into a new love life and somehow there was a vibe of shedding the PSB coat.

But to then pop up mysteriously as a featured vocal... in probably his most raw and melancholy love song ever? Did he feel like he had to go into a different setting to sing this?

Anyway........ the guitar in the chorus is incredibly dancey! Marr is a craftsman

While I had always been a fan of the PSB I had no idea about this songs existence. way back when I was just flipping thru channels and that movie cool world was on and I just let the movie play while I was cleaning up and then I heard a tune during a scene with a singer going AHHH AH AHHHHHH and I was like, man what is this?! had no idea it was the PSB and I looked up the cool world soundtrack and saw it was the PSB. kinda a happy accident.

He was inspired by Désenchantée by Mylène Farmer. Which explains why it sounds like it sounds.

Disappointed not only closes the gap musically between Discography and Very. The videoclip is full of computer animations. It's looks like the first videoclip of the Very era which became more "digital" with every single.

Is Two divided by zero part of the PSB canon though? It's the only PSB ditty that Chris didn't co-write.

Yeah because it’s a Pet Shop Boys track on a Pet Shop Boys album. PSB didn’t write ‘Always on my mind’ at all but it’s canon.

Always on my mind is a cover version, not written by either one of them. TDBZ though was written only with one psb, the exception to the rule.

Obviously, the song is by Electronic. But there are plenty of songs in the PSB back catagloue that sound less "PSB" than Disappointed. Also, in theory Chris is not involved. But the songwriting and sounds are all classic PSB. Not like poppy New Order was ever that far off PSB anyway. In your mind do you consider it a Pet Shop Boys song? I do. Or do you consider it a song by Electronic that Neil sings on?
Got this single and the second version of the album. But I file them as Electronic.
Absolutely Fabulous I count as a Pet Shop Boys single.
Rent (Where Neil sings with Suede), I have stuck in the Rent folder as a bonus track.
She's Madonna I count as Robbie Williams and Pet Shop Boys. As Neil isn't main vocal. So, under Robbie.
Other artists that are main vocal, but their material, not a Pet Shop Boys single.
Disco 4 is a Pet Shop Boys album in the Misc category.
Cover versions are a Pet Shop Boys single, just not Neil's complete lyrics.
You gotta have fun!

When I play Disappointed to casual music listeners, they immediately ask me if this is the new song from your Boys? Neil's vocals are so distinctive...

By the way, it is one of the most underrated gems from 1990s. I was lucky to find a copy of "Cool World" cassette by chance way before it was released in Greatest Hits package.
